Anyways, I noticed at least one review saying it has a 34oz line labelled, but it's actually just like 20oz?

Lol I wouldn't say dumb at all but perhaps not taking into account long handled bottle cleaners? I personally never had a reason to buy these since it's always been easy to clean wide mouthed water bottles for me. My older sister has kids and she has these tiny bottle cleaners she uses on their bottles and such and it hit me when my Chemex got a small brown coffee stain on the bottom: I should buy these.
I think a set of those on Amazon should be okay. I also think of the sterilization of boiling water and generally feel pretty safe.

Except for cleaning it the first time, you shouldn't need to clean it if all you use it for is to boil water

Ehh, not entirely true. Even if boiling only water in the kettle, if the water is very hard depending on where you live, it could eventually develop calcium or lime deposits inside the kettle especially if the kettle is stainless steel. Thankfully if you eventually notice these small white spots throughout the kettle, boiling some vinegar actually cleans it pretty well.
The User Manual contains descaling instructions (with water and vinegar).
