I think the real question is, assuming crypto prices stay low, how far will graphics card prices fall? Will we see mid-range cards at the $150 price point? Or maybe $200?

As long as energy prices stay high, crypto stays low, and buyers shy away..the end of the year maybe? The roi on these cards has tanked leading to the increase supply of the used market. There are already $200 rx 6600 cards available.

Almost certainly. As of right now, it would take you nearly two years to earn back the price of this card mining Ethereum, assuming an average sales tax, electricity rate, and PSU efficiency, not counting any taxes you would pay on that mining revenue. Given that Ethereum is slated to go PoS in Q3/Q4 of this year (thus eliminating all mining revenue) and that there are no other options for mining that are as profitable (especially if you take into account migration from Ethereum after PoS), there is just no way any reasonable person would be buying these cards at these prices for mining crypto.

On top of that, manufacturers were already given a waiver of the former 25% import tariff on GPUs from China back in March, which was retroactive to last October and good through the end of this year.

So to answer your question, yes, they will almost certainly fall to that price point. Inventory is piling up, and eventually these manufacturers are going to have to meaningfully compete on price or find another business to get into.

what's funny is this probably would be enough for me because I have never even pc gamed before (not since several decades back, anyway), yet I got a 12gb 3080 on a deal. Now I am going to feel forced to game where I didn't waste all that extra money.

Yeah I wouldn't hold my breath for PoS…that was slated to launch in 2019 and has been delayed over and over.

Just buy your GPU and use it or else you'll be forever waiting.

Ok but I have heard of MSI and I hadn't heard of XFX . How do the reputations of these 2 companies compare.

XFX is a good company for video cards. They make some good stuff. They aren't quite MSI, but not Zotac or Colorful.

XFX is good, I can't comment on their support though. I've owned several cards by them and never had one die. They been around for a couple decades. You might not of heard of them because afaik they only make AMD cards for the last decade. If you been keeping a eye mostly on Nvidia for the last several years, maybe the reason you hadn't come across them.

Or if you haven't been in the PC scene for long would also be a reason.

I guess I can finally build a new PC. Been forcibly held back so long from it I'm not sure what's going to motivate me to jump in.
