Think you can get $10 off by signing up for Rewards also. I use a Zotac eGPU with my NUC and it is awesome, highly recommend it if you have a use for one. It's also pretty quiet compared to a gaming laptop.

This gave new life to an old several year old MBP. Dropped in a decent 8gb GPU and now got a nice little setup. Has some quirks but nothing you cant work around. Do note it requires one of those high throughtput USB C cables bwtn case and laptop, not the basic ones, for power and video.

Good point, those are typically 20" and crazy expensive. It does come with one.

PSA: just be aware that M1 Macs do not support eGPUs and likely never will.

The Flow x13 and XG eGPU make this at 350 a hard sell.

What is the bottleneck of these things vs using a gfx card internally? How well would it work to hook this up to a business laptop that has a good processor and a decent amount of RAM? Would there be any stuttering when playing games?

As long as you're driving an external monitor from the eGPU it's fine. But there are a fair number of people who try to leverage their laptop screen on these and see some fair performance degradation for what I would consider obvious reasons.

I signed up for the offer since it appeared during my checkout...did not receive an email for a code or anything so I finished checking out anyhow. Discount did not appear in after confirmation and web chatted with customer support. CS would not apply the discount manually so I cancelled my order. CS commented it would take up to 24 hours to receive the code but I usually receive discount codes minutes after completing a discount offer process from other sites.

Good while it lasted I guess; refurbished items like this are so much better since most wear on the components are like high frequency contact points like I/o and fans

It depends on how your laptop implements Thunderbolt. Some only utilize 2 PCIe lanes(~20 gbps) while others utilize 4(~40gbps). Even with 4 PCIe lanes, benchmarks usually show about a 10-15% performance hit on a given desktop GPU.

I got one of these a while back to try out with my ~3y/o laptop that only has 2 lane Thunderbolt for a potential travel gaming setup. While it did provide a decent performance bump over the laptop GPU, it wasn't enough to justify trying to travel with a rather bulky enclosure that's about the same size as my SFF desktop PC, especially since I would still need to bring an external monitor.
