There is a newer 256MB cache. Wonder if that performs any better. Its just for surveillance.

I think it would help only a little bit at best but for the most part, you don't need more cache. Cache is mainly for if you need to access the same thing repeatedly and quickly. Since these drives are for surveillance and the computer/NVR/DVR is continuously writing to it, and you are only going to review footage once, I don't see much benefit with higher cache.

WD might increase cache to help scenarios where you need extra cache in case you are recording from multiple sources (ie more cameras)
