I bought 8 (4-2packs) of these a couple of months ago for $162 per 2 pack. They are well made with protected corners and preinstalled MC-4 connectors. Well worth the money, IMHO.

What are you using them for? If you are charging deep cycle or lithium batteries for a camper you need a charge controller. I go straight from solar to charge controller to battery with my set up with a couple of in line fuses to protect the system.

If you are looking for some kind of home hybrid solution you will be looking at a lot more money. If you are looking to charge a portable power station you probably don't need much more than an adapter.

At bare minimum you need a solar controller which outputs a 12-14V power which you connect to a car/RV battery. The controllers have been listed on SD for around $20-30. You also need cable and connectors (with built in diodes) which ranges from $10-50 depending on how much you want to fabricate yourself.

Stick with mono over poly....much higher efficiency

Someone above said "car/RV battery" -- actually if you will use this for any long term discharge loads other than momentary vehicle starting you should only get a deep cycle type battery which a normal car battery anyway isn't going to be rated for.

Speaking of batteries -- for a small-medium sized fixed site battery installation (like 2-6 decent size batteries) what battery products / types / vendors are suggested for being overall lifetime most cost effective, reliable, durable, etc.? I don't have a preconceived notion of needing flooded lead acid, sealed lead acid, AGM, gel cell, lithium iron phosphate just looking for about 24V and a few hundred amp hours of deep cycle capacity to start. The area doesn't get persistently hot, though it does freeze overnight for several weeks over winter and have cool high humidity nights / mornings for several months out of the year.
So maybe charge between 400W-1000W part of the day and have batteries available the rest of the time.

So what are the metrics for cost per Ah and cost per charge cycle (assuming thousands of partial or occasionally nearing full discharge recharges over the life time of the batteries)?

What is going to be better total cost of ownership for maintenance, battery box heating requirements, service life in years vs. cost?

And where does one get "slick deals" on deep cycle batteries other than some of the fancy LiFeP power banks occasionally advertised here (which is not so much what I'm thinking of here presuming higher cost and less scalability vs. basic battery products DIYed)?

FYI, dont expect full 100W per panel, I get about 80W from each panel on sunny clear day for my DIY portable power station to run my window AC, work pretty well (pics attached)

In all my years, I've never seen something with such a low apparent WAF ... and yet, there are baby toys in the pic, so presumably hondaman82 has both a wife and acceptance of this setup, to the point that copulation is still permitted. Astounding.

She has a sister if you're interested Danjayh. Apparently Honda wears the pants around here.

Nice use of that Craftsman rig to build your PS. Unlike a lot of these fools on SD buying a low grade proprietary junk PS, you built your own so you can always replace a part/cell. Smart. What are the cells?

SOK batteries are what I first considered, then the rack batteries hit the market.
I went with Signature Solar [signaturesolar.com] rack batts in the end.
I think it's safe to say, you're a little Beyond Renogy panels.
