The Last of Us Part 2 has been divisive among players, fans of part 1, and critics, but it is a worthwhile purchase, especially at this price point.

If you have played TLOU Part 1, then I highly encourage you to give this game a shot and form a conclusion of your own.

Without spoiling anything, I can say that I enjoyed the game very much. My enjoyment does not come from the story it told, but rather its gameplay and visuals. Since I played the game near its release window, I was not exposed to reviews that exist for it now, thus I found the narrative route taken in Part 2 to be truly audacious. I did not feel too great about it while playing through it, but have since grown to appreciate the writers for it. The story is not bad by and means, in fact it is a solid story; if the writing from Part 1 was not as good as it turned out to be (it is considered to be one of the best among all story-telling mediums), I do not think the story told here would be as devisive. I did, however, enjoy how amazing everything looked visually and how it played, so I didn't immediately hate it for not telling a story I wanted, but instead kept playing to find out how it would conclude based on the choices the characters and story made.

Story-wise, I personally do not think this game holds a candle to Part 1, but it exceeds in all other areas. The gameplay is an improvement over the predecessor as it improves upon many (if not all) of its gameplay elements and introduces new ones.

You may come to a different conclusion from playing the game, which I think is truly what matters. There are many things that may make or break one's enjoyment of a videogame (some of which are technical, gameplay, and narrative), so you may be doing yourself a disservice by avoiding this game (or any other) based on others' reviews or conclusions, including this one.

Imagine a Batman game where Joker kills Batman and instead of making it a revenge story you play as Nightwing, they make you play as the Joker to sympathize with him. This game successfully ended my desire to collect all games/movies in a series. Congratulations.

There has only been one The Last of Us game and an add-on called Left Behind. Sometimes things are better if you stop before what you like gets destroyed. Go play Miles Morales or Uncharted instead of TLOU2.

Yeah, I hope they kill off Drake in the next Uncharted game, that would be so amazing.

I'll pass even for $10. There's a reason why the game has low user reviews and did not meet sales expectations.
You have your right to like/dislike the game, but please don't spread misinformation. In its 12 months, it was the 4th best selling game (behind Cold War, madden 21 and Valhalla). Sony even made a statement that it exceeded expectations.

And user score is what you want to use? The 150k+ metacritic scores? To put it in perspective, Fortnite has less than 10k reviews.

I respect others opinion, but this game attracted some of the dumbest user criticism out there and cannot be trusted until you play it yourself. If you're on a fence, look up reviews by your favorite reviewer.

I played this back to back for the first time last year with Pt1. I never understood the hate. Once you accept the story decisions, I though the storytelling itself was fantastic and I really was conflicted with the characters and their motives.

To me, this was certainly a better than Ghost of Tsushima, a rebadged Assassins creed that people seemed to like.

Still have my $10 copy unboxed because of backlog like mamy. May try via console remote play via Steam Deck. They're remastering TLoU 1 again for PS5. They may as well waited for UE5, almost platinumed the original remaster on PS4 and could speed play thru it by the end, lots of replay value because of the story and dlc. For $10 for AAA BNIB game TLoU2 should be worth the play through and judge for yourself how much you like/dislike the game play and storyline.

Bought it when it was $20. Definitely wasn't worth more than that, and I'd say it IS worth $10 if you want a solid single-player campaign. Inferior to the original in every way except possibly graphics. Story is trash compared to the original. Gameplay is typical Naughty Dog which is solid but it feels like grinding from one area to another for a good part of the game. Characters are not compelling at all. And no, no one hates them because of sexual orientation or whatnot. That's just what people say to dismiss legit criticism (same phenomenon happens to Disney Star Wars). In fact at one point Naughty Dog was trying to get YouTube channels banned for criticizing the game. Sad.

What is the reason? Genuinely curious as I haven't played either but have always wanted to (I do not have a PlayStation).

I bought this digitally for $59 the day of release. It wasn't a complete piece of garbage but the plot twist sure is a shock. For $10 it's a no brainer.

A whole lot of review bombing. A lot from people who got mad over a plot point. And a lot from a certain, very loud section of the gaming community who throw temper tantrums when they get reminded that gay people exist.

Played it through, and unlike the first game, which I played through several times, I have zero desire to play it ever again. The narrative choices were not bold, they were nihilistic; not thoughtful, but trite.

It's beautiful, the gameplay is superb, and the garbage story is reasonably well told, but it's still a lazy, cliché story masquerading as something deep.

Loved the first and loved this one too. The 50/50 split is….. "it didn't live out my personal fantasy and makes me feel weak so it sucks". Ten bucks for any game from this series is a no brainer.
