I teach Computer Science and almost jumped on this last time. However at $180, you should look for a Chromebook with a touchscreen even if the screen is a little smaller and/or the price is a little higher.
Many apps (think STEM) are geared toward touch-enabled devices which makes for a superior experience for kids. Sadly, kids are keyboard/mouse inept.
For adults relying on cloud services, a larger screen equals greater productivity.

As a STEM teacher, I disagree with only using touchscreen devices. Yes, tablets and phones are omniscient, but I don't think trackpads and mice will disappear. Maybe this comment will age poorly, but trackpads and mice allow for things like right click. I can't imagine programming with a touchscreen. Typing on an onscreen keyboard is a nightmare. Also, what does it say about us as teachers if we allow students to give up because something is difficult? Using a trackpad or mouse improves fine motor skills. I am so disappointed when I see students holding up devices to their mouths to do speech-to-text because they're too lazy to type or attempt to spell correctly. With text-to-speech, we might as well get rid of the written language if that's what's acceptable. I personally asked my tech department for non-touchscreen devices, because I believe in helping students develop many skill sets, not just those that they are comfortable with. Growth comes from being challenged.

Not a power chromebook, but the screen is very good except for the brightness which is good enough for streaming indoors. For most users it's a steal but if you're a power user it can't handle a lot of multitasking (I've hit the limit several times).

If you want power then you shouldn't consider a $180 chromebook at all. Come on people. Be real.

I grabbed one when they were $149 a while back. Great machine for the price. Another thing worth mentioning is that it will get ChromeOS updates until 2029.

These have been $149 previously. At that price a no brainer. $179 on Fleabay doesn't ring the deal bell to me.

I've been using it for college as my main laptop since it was on sale for $150 and I've had no complaints. Kinda scary to read that some have had issues with the touchpad but mine has been fine. I only use a mouse when I stream games and this Chromebook is great at it. Actually, I've been impressed with the performance of the Intel N4500. I've bought the Acer Spin 513 with the Snapdragon 7c, and just last week the Acer Spin 514 with the Ryzen 3 3250c, and for some reason they just haven't performed as well as the N4500, real world, or in benchmarks.
The Ryzen 3 beats the Celeron big time. The spin 514 has touchscreen, backlit keyboard and aluminum body.

Got it at $150 two months ago. Overall it's a solid device with a nice screen and good speakers but I've had a few issues.

On a few occasions when the chromebook was plugged in for a few hours (power setting to turn off display on idle while plugged in) I pressed a key or moved the mouse to wake the display but the system froze and the screen stayed black. I knew the OS was frozen because the USB dongle/receiver for the mouse has an LED that flashes when I move the mouse. When this freezing happened the LED did not show activity w/ mouse movement. The only option in these instances was to force reset by pressing power + reload (circular arrow) button. Same freezing issue has happened without any USB mouse or device connected. No freezing issues coming out of sleep when running on battery.

Another time waking it up, the display was switching between normal display and being blurry or fuzzy. It was quite bizarre. Again, a reset fixed the issue. That happened once when the chromebook was not plugged in.

I don't know if I got a lemon or if there are some odd firmware or OS version bugs. Of course these issues only started after the return period passed. I eventually changed the setting to sleep on idle when plugged into AC power.

Before you buy it, read the user reviews to get a feel for if this is something you want.

Most of us that bought this device are very impressed with the 17 inch ips screen and the sound is great on this laptop compared to other windows/chromebooks I have owned in the past.

General Purpose laptop in very handy form factor. For a good laugh, read the FOUR 1star reviews out of 375 reviews, ... the vast majority of people gave this 5 star reviews, and sing it's praises. I did! For the price, it's a steal. But if you are a POWER user or Apple person, why are you in this thread reading here. Smilie (This is for school, older people that want easy reading experience, or just plain like Big Screen laptops to watch a movie, or give desktop type experience.)

Again, 94 percent of the people that buy it, recommend it. Don't buy it without looking at the user reviews, to make sure this is what you are looking for in a laptop. i liked it so much I did buy 2 of them and I'm not alone! I know a good thing when I see it. Smilie

Got this when it was $150 and for that price I would say it's great. It's heavy. I thought it was going to be skinny and light from the pics but it works well. Glad I have a decent backup in case my hp fails.

Definitely not for travel or probably couch surfing due to it's size (I have different Chromebook for that) but it's perfect on kitchen counter when having breakfast and wanting to read the news.

Still expensive for $179. Waiting for 4th of July sale or perhaps on Black Friday.
