I am a tech guy and bought this at $200 for my mom, I was impressed with the little time I had with it, in fact gonna grab me one now, do not think we see the $150 price again
It's possible.
I bought it for $189 then a few days later it went to $149 as a Deal of the day.
I had Best Buy price match and they credited me the difference.
Could happen again.

This is a very nice Chromebook.

I have a few of the little ones from previous years.
I'm definitely glad that I got this one.

would this stream HD video from youtube and similar sites?
Yes I watch a lot of movies on BitChute through mine.
Picture looks fine.
I do Bluetooth the sound to my LG soundbar for movies.
But for just short videos I use the sound of Chromebook.

The Ryzen 3 beats the Celeron big time. The spin 514 has touchscreen, backlit keyboard and aluminum body.
Did you even read? I own all three. Not only is the Ryzen 3 3250c inferior, it also needs a heatsink and fan.

Which generation is "Intel Celeron N4500 2-Cores, 2-Threads (1.10GHz Base / 2.80GHz Boost) Processor"? Wondering if this will work w/ geforce now (says you need 7th gen or later
I use geforce now all the time on this, it's great.

Yes I did. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/comp...4227vs4605

Ryzen 3 has easily and speedily handled every task I have thrown at it, and 4 gigs of memory has been plenty for my work and play. This Ryzen chip was designed for use with chrome OS, and it shows. There is a fan, and after hours of work, I could sometimes hear it turn on, but it never bothered me. This Spin has not bogged down on me at all, and all tasks have been completed with aplomb. I seldom use the Linux apps, but did turn on the feature to install and use several apps, including Thunderbird mail. I had no problems, but I think you would be pressing the limits of this laptop's memory if you wanted to keep several Linux apps going at once.

I am confused too, did you read what RicardoS7677 wrote? He owns your laptop and compared it to this 17 inch ASUS, which he also OWNS?

Sometimes , it is not just about the chipset, it is about the whole package, and the company making the device, right?

And you are saying your Ryzen 3 Acer is better, right? Challenge him, to a BATTLE of the 2 chromebooks!

It doesn't seem like you ACCEPT RicardoS7677's review comparing them. Slap him in the face with a wet noodle, and challenge him. In the spirit of fun and harmless horse play. Unless you surrender and ACCEPT RicardoS7677's USER comparision as fair and balanced. Which is ok too. Smilie

I miss the olden days where we would take our differences OUTSIDE, with pistols in hand and take 10 paces apart, turn around and shoot! Smilie

This is what I get from Geekbench and Speedometer 2.0...

I was just expecting a decent leap from the $149 17.3" Asus and the $229 Spin 514. They're both great Chromebooks, but the performance difference just isn't noticeable.

I think I'll return the Acer Spin 514, and wait for an under $300 Chromebook with 8GB of RAM and an NVMe drive instead of eMMC, those two are the real bottlenecks when it comes to Chromebooks.

I posted benchmark pics lol Both on the latest beta Chrome OS.

EDIT: I'm just saying that this ASUS 17.3" is the best Chromebook for the money on Memorial Day or otherwise. Also, the battery on the ASUS is almost twice that the Spin 514, and it's the only Chromebook where I don't instinctively slouch down to view the screen. I love the 17.3" screen. The Acer Spin 514 screen is significantly dimmer too at barely over 200 nits.

Are you still using the Asus? How's it faring?

EDIT: The Acer Spin 514 is $209 shipped from the Acer Recertified site after coupon, which is a more reasonable deal for a well built aluminum Chromebook with a backlit keyboard. I paid $251 for mine from Best Buy, and just isn't as impressive at this price.

... Yup, I'm still using my ASUS 17 inch-er and love it.

The last couple of weeks I'm breaking in my Acer Aspire XC Desktop (Refurb): i5-11400, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Win 10 for 299 dollars.

The ASUS 17 inch chromebook and this ACER desktop both work for me.

It sounds like you have been busy yourself with cool tech toys too. Smilie

On paper the ryzen and the graphics chip should do much better than the Asus. The screen spec for both should be 250nits.
But not all lcd panels made are the same. Some differ on brightness and color.

Those are some crappy numbers for the acer. In my case I had 100 best buy rewards and used it for the acer. It was either the acer or the Asus. Really like the 17 inch screen but no touch and no lighted keyboard. I will wait until the Asus drops to 150. If the acer turns out to be crap then I'll return the acer.

I teach Computer Science and almost jumped on this last time. However at $180, you should look for a Chromebook with a touchscreen even if the screen is a little smaller and/or the price is a little higher.
Many apps (think STEM) are geared toward touch-enabled devices which makes for a superior experience for kids. Sadly, kids are keyboard/mouse inept.
For adults relying on cloud services, a larger screen equals greater productivity.
As a STEM teacher, I disagree with only using touchscreen devices. Yes, tablets and phones are omniscient, but I don't think trackpads and mice will disappear. Maybe this comment will age poorly, but trackpads and mice allow for things like right click. I can't imagine programming with a touchscreen. Typing on an onscreen keyboard is a nightmare. Also, what does it say about us as teachers if we allow students to give up because something is difficult? Using a trackpad or mouse improves fine motor skills. I am so disappointed when I see students holding up devices to their mouths to do speech-to-text because they're too lazy to type or attempt to spell correctly. With text-to-speech, we might as well get rid of the written language if that's what's acceptable. I personally asked my tech department for non-touchscreen devices, because I believe in helping students develop many skill sets, not just those that they are comfortable with. Growth comes from being challenged.
