Guys, if you do not see anything, my suggestion is to call T-Mobile and ask if you are eligible for offer P038.

This is very strange, I took my SIM and placed into my previous iPhone 5S and my account online and care both showed it as a 6S! How is this possible?

I rebooted and removed sim, waited two days and tried again. Same. Keeps showing iPhone 6S and I doubled checked the IMEI.

Can go into store and prove to them it's a 5S?
Don't worry about it. As long as the IMEI matches, that is all that matters. My devices often show up as the wrong variant, color, "Device Unkown," etc.

BTW, putting your sim in the 5s will not trigger the deal on your account automatically anyway if it is not already targeted in the T-Mobile system.

If your account is not targeted, you would have to try the call-in route. You would have to find a call-rep who is willing to process the order under the p038 promo, then jump through the hoops to have the promo post correctly to your account after the new iPhone is delivered.

I did the same thing, inserted my sim to an iPhone 3g, but it showed as an iPhone XS, but with the correct IMEI.

Guys, I bought a used iPhone off eBay and I am about to do it. Need some advice please.

The phone is AT&T. I assume it is locked. I looked through the condition and it didn't say anything that it needs to be activated (actual terms same as posted by OP, not SD FP post). Should I bother putting my SIM in the phone since it is likely carrier locked?

I am thinking of getting the iPhone 11 instead of SE because of the bigger screen (paying $3 extra per month). I have NEVER owned an iPhone before. I am not familiar with iPhone in general. Is that a right decision?

The iPhone can be carrier locked. No need to activate it. To repeat what I just typed 2 posts previously, putting your sim in the 3g iPhone will not trigger the P038 promo on your account anyway, especially if it is not already targeted in the T-Mobile system.

If your account is not targeted for the promo, you will have to try the call-in route, which means finding a call-rep willing to process the order manually using the p038 promo, and providing the rep with the IMEI of the 3g iPhone. You would then need to jump through the hoops with T-Force to have the promo post correctly to your account after the new iPhone is delivered. YMMV as how smoothly that will go.

As for the 11, it has a bigger screen and battery, and may hold better trade value, but is pretty much worse or same for everything else, compared to the SE3. So buy whatever you prefer. I chose the SE3 since I wanted a small iPhone that fits in my pocket when working out using my Apple Watch.

Thanks. I actually have the offer in my account and I can do it all online. I am just posting because the terms never mention anything about activating the phone on my account and I have no intention of doing so. (BTW, if I do it in store, it will cost me more, right? Not to mention being told by misinformed rep that I need to be using the old iPhone)

I suppose the iPhone 11 camera is better too?

Finally, my account showed the 5c with IMEI on my account page, I contacted CSR through Chat and I was first told that P038 is expired. I told CSR I am able to see this on tmobile promo page. Then CSR told me that the promo is for Retired/senior members and asked if I am retired.

CRS kept on saying it's for the retired member only.

Is anyone having a similar conversation today?
I I just inserted a sim into an iphone 5 yesterday, called the rep about the promo. He said for targeted line only. Asked about another line on the same account and he said that line that line has iphone 12 promo. So my plan will be: to wait for a few months until the iphone 12 is paid off then call in about this promo

Do have any 3G phone active on your account? If not then this targeted offer must he random 🤔

My iPhone 4 was delivered yesterday to Lewisville, TX. I have not yet received any texts from T-Mobile regarding the approval.

In past deals, it usually took a week or two typically.

Interesting that yours has not even been delivered, but they already sent you the approval texts.
I assume it was delivered but tracking info was not updated. I deleted tracking info from phone so I can't see if it actually changed today
Probably 10 -12 days since ship date to final approval.

I am not sure if T-mobile will honor this promo if you wait for couple months. I have been told couple time by multiple CSR that once the promo is expired, they cannot do anything on it.

If you have another line that has no EIP attached, insert that sim on your 5s and try again.

I am just hoping that Tmobile keeps on checking eligible line for this promo and send eligibility email or after July 1, they run another similar promo.

Good luck.

I'm using a 4G phone but it is not compatible with VoLTE. I received email, SMS, and even a snail mail to tell me to upgrade.

Yup. I mention it on here or another similar thread. You don't need to use a iPhone to trigger this deal. I have never used any iPhone older than an 6s on my line. I got the promo offer for a phone line using Moto Z2. I got text and emails telling me to upgrade. This is way before this iPhone promo was even offered.
Still haven't taken this offer yet as I don't have any old iPhone to trade in. Local sales market for such old iphones are pretty dry in my area. Might have to do ebay if I do decide to do this deal

Unless the 24 month term is an issue for you, not sure why you would pass on this deal if it is targeted in your account. For the price of a dirt cheap 3g iPhone from eBay, you get $430 credits toward a new iPhone of your choosing.

Thanks!Applause Just curious as I did call in and CSR helped me with the order over the phone. She confirmed P038 is applied, 2022 UMTS Apple Upgrade P1 is applied, and everything seems to check out. What else do I need to do after new phone is delivered?

Also on a different topic, can I give the new phone (after activation) to a family member? I don't really need to upgrade my device yet. Asking because the new phone is "supposed" to activated on my line.

Heads-Up - I went thru the call-in route, the Agent confirmed that I am eligible for the promo and he was able to process the order. However now, I see a charge on my bill for adding a new handset device.

I am on the phone again to figure out what went wrong. Just be sure to double-check and have the agent add notes into your account that you are eligible for the promo.
