One thing to note with this offer is that you can claim the 80,000 points with this and then downgrade the card to a Double Cash in a year. Effectively giving the Double Cash a 800$ sub
1) Meet spending requirement on Citi Premier card
2) Earn 80,000 point sign up bonus
3) Downgrade Premier to Double Cash or Custom Cash before you're charged with another annual fee
4) Points balance should carry over from Premier to your downgrade card

Just wanted to note as a data point I did get approved but I don't churn often. I did the citi custom cash with the 300$ offer for 1000 spend back in October. Besides that I haven't applied to a major cc in the past 24 mos which may have factored into my approval. ~775 credit score with a high income. I have heard the Citi has been picky with Premier card approvals since Covid so if you are churning or borderline credit you might want to play it safe

any advice on the exact timing? do you wait until the 1 year lapse and pay the annual fee again before requesting the product change?
Bonus ThankYou® Points are not available if you received a new cardmember bonus for
Citi Rewards+®
Citi ThankYou® Preferred
Citi ThankYou® Premier
Citi Premier®
Citi Prestige®
or if you have closed any of these accounts, in the past 24 months.
So if you have one of the above named card accounts still open but the bonus was received more than 24 months ago you can get the bonus on this card as long as you didn't close one of these accounts within 24 months?
Is the costco citi card one of these? I do not recall seeing any ThankYou points bonus but I could me mistaken

I did the Citi Custom Cash card as well. Do you think you still will be eligible for the Citi Premier bonus as well?

This I am not sure of myself. My card hasn't arrived in the mail yet to activate so I can let you know once that happens. It doesn't specify Custom Cash in that list...but who knows.

Do you mean use the 80,000 points once the card is downgraded to Double Cash? Please elaborate how?
Got approved (819 score) for a low 8,000. Will probably only make a single charge (son's tuition) before trying to downgrade it. Do we have to wait a certain amount of time before downgrading?
annual $100 credit for hotel requires minimum $500 hotel spending in one visit, not terrible but not great either since you likely need multiple nights

You'll need to pay the annual fee to get the bonus. The next one doesn't come around for a year. At that time cancel the card or ask for a downgrade.

From this page it seems Custom Cash doesn't apply to this rule: https://milestalk.com/citi-bonus-...ustom_Cash
