The annual fee is $95.

This information should be included in the OP.
One thing to note with this offer is that you can claim the 80,000 points with this and then downgrade the card to a Double Cash in a year. Effectively giving the Double Cash a 800$ sub
1) Meet spending requirement on Citi Premier card
2) Earn 80,000 point sign up bonus
3) Downgrade Premier to Double Cash or Custom Cash before you're charged with another annual fee
4) Points balance should carry over from Premier to your downgrade card

In case anyone cares, I have great credit (800 something), never carry a balance, never pay late, lots of available credit, etc, and I was instantly declined. They want people they can actually make some money off of it appears.

Same as me, 820 credit, never been late, no debt, etc and was instantly declined. Their reason was credit report shows too many bank or national revolving accounts and report shows insufficient information on credit history. I don't get the part about too many bank accounts. Didn't think they even looked such things.

Never close a credit card - always downgrade to a card with no annual fee
What's the concern? That closing credit cards hurts your credit score? Because I've closed plenty of credit cards and I haven't seen an overall negative effect to my score. I think as long as you keep your oldest accounts open and the total credit limit on your open cards is high enough, then the negative effects from closing a credit card should be temporary/negligible. Everyone's situation is different, so I would exercise caution. But I disagree with the blanket statement that you should never close a credit card.

My wife and I were declined as well. Ironically, I had her apply for the Citi Custom Cash and she was instantly approved lol.

I got approved with a $13k limit.

I can see why they need an $800 bonus to get people into it. The benefits are just ok; the annual fee seems unjustified.

Either way, I'm happy to spend my $4000 and take the points for $100!

Thanks!

It seems like I am unable to redeem for cash back or statement credit. No option is listed for cash back and under statement credit it says "don't have any transactions at this time." What am I doing wrong?

Edit: nevermind I had to do it through the website and not the app

Just wanted to add to this thread - I can confirm that I am eligible for the bonus despite getting the Custom Cash bonus 6 months ago

Flowchart: get Premier card -> spend 4k to get 80,000 points -> after 1 year, downgrade to another citi card (custom cash / Double cash). Nothing really complicated here.

Will downgrading be considered another application for a credit card? A credit inquiry on your record?

There is no inquiry involved in product changes

I was approved instantly as well. It showed me the credit limit approved and also said the card will be mailed within 7-10 days…. However, haven't received any email for confirmation and don't see new credit account under Citi app. Anyone had the same situation? How long after it will show in Citi app?
