WM is really bad with storing bulbs and bare root plants. These are likely dead already. Though to be honest I got some great gladiolus from Sams Club earlier this year. But WM stuff has always been dehydrated and never come up.

If you want to take a risk, you can probably plant these just fine now. It's just that they won't have time to bloom. But they should grow roots and blades and store up energy for next year.

It is already too late to plant glads. Hence the discount.

They should be able to. Where I live (WI) they need to be dug up and planted again each year.

you can plant them now no problem --they will 'come out' but wont flower likely, but will be all settled in for next years blooming!

Thank you for the info! I think they are so beautiful, but wasn't sure if we passed the season and figured SDers will know what to do! I wonder if SoCal is too hot at this point to plant them? or is the problem winter frost? As you can probably tell, gardening is not my strong suit.

Unfortunately, most of the bulbs would not survive if you don't plant them this year. Learned that the hard way earlier.

As someone suggested before, make sure you plant them right away and then overwinter them (by digging up the bulbs if needed for your zone).

You need to find your USDA zone [usda.gov] and then compare it to what the plant description says is suitable. This little tip will make it much easier for choosing plants that work in your environment. I really doubt winter will be a problem for you, since they over-winter just fine in the mid atlantic.

LOL. I bought dollar25 store bulbs. Only 5 per pack. Very small.
Blades come first year.
Nice blooms there after year after year.
They have lots of Babies.
Nice tall colorful flowers.
They need lots of water.
All in Heat Bowl Houston TX.

WM did the same thing last year with these exact types of bulbs. I bought last year and planted them then. I've got 100+ of these blooming all over my yard. It's worth the $8 to try.

We have them in 5b and don't have any problems overwintering them in ground. But I usually pay 12.99 for 50 at Costco in the spring.
