How can I setup alerts for the clearance prices? Or do I simply start visiting HD and Walmart come September?

I bought the 800 series in March after much research and debate between this or a pellet grill. I was on the fence for almost a year. I've enjoyed grilling; but, wasn't one of these fanatical, "keep my grill in the garage" guys. Coming from a less expensive 5 burner gas grill I am amazed at how easy these are to use and how good the food comes out. The first thing I made on the grill was a rib-eye. I smoked it at 225 till it got to 100F internal and then pulled it off cranked the temp up to 475, then tossed it back on and finished my sear. Pulled it off and let rest. Got to about 135-140F and served it. OMG, the best stake I ever made. It was a thing of beauty. Since then, I've done the same method to burgers, smoked a few pork butts, a brisket, jerked ribs, and lots of chicken.

Neighbor has a Pit Boss pellet smoker and I can tell you the flavor is hands down better on this. His smoke flavor food is great don't get me wrong; but, if you're on the fence.. get off and come to the MasterBuilt side.

I bought the 800 for the griddle. Its not the easiest griddle to use; because, you can't vary the surface temp like you can with a stand alone griddle. But, you'll get the hang of it.

I got the following mods day one from LSS-Mods:
Hopper Cover
Ash Bucket Grate
Fan protector
Grate Hook Multi-Tool

In my opinion the hopper cover from LSS-Mods is a must have. It is the best design by ease of use. It is absolutely the best of the mods I have so far. The Ash bucket grate is a must have if you want to put lump wood under the hopper for smoking. It allows the ash to fall into the bucket and not pile up around the wood. Honestly, the fan protector isn't necessary. The grate hook tool has been handy to lift the grates and swap them out with the griddle; but, be ready with gloves cause, you're sill going to have to set them on something and grab the vent housing.

After using this grill and smoker for a few months, I will definitely be getting the manifold cover, water pan, and pan holders from one source or another before the fall grill season in Florida. I'm also waiting for the warranty to run out before getting the rear vent slide from Klotesmods.

Pros and Cons of the gravity series of MasterBuilt grills:
Pros:
  • Easy to use
  • Great flavor
  • Dozens of upgrades/improvements available from LSS-Mods.com and Klotesmods.com
  • 800 series has the griddle

Cons:
  • Heavy/bulky pieces makes assembly difficult on your own
  • Packaging - nearly all of it is wrapped in greased plastic; but, the grease is like super sticky. The bubble wrap on the griddle just stuck to it. I ended up leaving it out in the sun and scraping it with a razor blade. I tried dawn and even that didn't break it down. Just had to get it wet and scrape it with my fingernails to get all of the little bits off. It took way too much effort and time. Also, like others, the glue on the paper insert on the lid is ridiculous. I had to gently scrape it with a razor after hitting it with the heat gun. It never really fully came off and I scratched the inside of the lid.
  • You will use a lot of charcoal and expensive charcoal; because, you'll want to use this thing.
  • The heating duct isn't stainless steel and you have to keep it well oiled if you store outside. Even with the cover if you're in a high humidity environment like Florida.
  • People are going to want you to smoke things for them (pro if they pay?).
Sorry, this was long; but, I'd say these are a deal at any price at or below retail. Hopefully, this helps someone.

Does anyone know how this would compare to a Camp Chef Woodwind 20 as far as longevity goes? I loved my little Camp Chef, but it's only been 2 years and the thing has so much rust on it I'm not sure it is still usable.

Bought Char-Griller E56720 AKORN Kamado [amazondealszone.com]. The efficiency of the grill is incredible. One bag of lump charcoal will last me a month grilling 3-4 times a week. It is really nice being able to smother the coals and save the charcoal for next time unlike a traditional charcoal grill that uses a 1/2 bag of charcoal regardless of what you cook.
I hate babysitting my coal. Set and forget with the Masterbuilt.

I have a 10 pork butt smoking right now on the masterbuilt gravity 800. Thing works great.

I know a few people who bought this 560 and they wished they bought the bigger 800 or 1050.

But this is a good deal for it
Love my 560... 800 would be fine, but the 560 is plenty big.

Bottom line, blows away my old pellet grill - not even in the same league. Was all excited to mod it in the beginning - didn't mod it at all and it works great. Glad I saved my money...

Not sure your point... since you can smother the coals with this as well.

Only if I forge to take out the slats or don't shake the ash grate.

I have the 1050 and love it - I feel like it goes through charcoal pretty quickly but maybe I just don't know what the norm is… love the outcome every time though!

What are you using to get it started? I saw on the forums to use this and it has been awesome to start my 560. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/produ...UTF8&psc=1. I light that and let it burn for a few minutes before I turn the smoker on and get the fan going, then I'll close the door.

Another thing I do is I jab at the bottom of the coals (through the grate in the lower door) to clear out any potential of an ash layer that accumulates after I put out my last smoke.

Debating gravity or chargriller 980. Have akorn. Like it well enough but I find it hard to anything but low and slow or blazing sear. In between is a crapshoot on getting a temp right. I also have issues every time I open it to check meat or wrap etc my temps climb after closing and this gets hotter and hotter with each open so I tend to just leave it closed. . Want 800 size or 1050 so will watch and wait.

Hey there. I use the masterbuilt squares (and have used the Weber white cubes in a pinch). Take out and leave out both dampers. Shake out the fire tray to get all the ash and smaller charcoal out of the grates. Push the lighter block as far as you can into the ash tray door slot under the charcoal. Keep the hood and both the upper and lower charcoal doors open and light the block.
Leave everything the way it is for 3 to 4 minutes. While everything's still open turn the controls to the correct temp and then close the two charcoal doors. The fan should kick on then. Close the hood and it should start to climb.
I just did this step by step with mine to do some sausages and it's cranking away with no issues.
Keep the dampers out the whole time.
If you have any questions just let me know.
