FWIW, my comment in an earlier MacBook Air thread https://slickdeals.net/f/15862204-costco-macbook-air-8-256-849-99?p=155898508#post155898508:

'Low RAM' is a completely made-up problem for a laptop in this category. 8GB RAM is more than enough for any non-professional.

Max Tech did an in-depth comparison of the M1 MacBook Air with 8GB and 16GB of RAM www.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dh487I_5xOZU [youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dh487I_5xOZU]. There was little to no difference until he started maxing out the machine with Pro apps, and even then the difference wasn't significant.
But how? I use an 8gb and need to upgrade because it maxes out just using chrome. Does Mac/Apple have some vudu that makes chrome use less ram?

That's because Macs will go on forever unlike a cheap windows machine which will stop working in a couple of years. MacBook Air and MacBook Pro brought in Aug 2014 and used daily by my kids and they still are going strong (except for battery life which is not great anymore). OTOH, I have changed at least 3 Windows machines for my wife who has refused to move to Mac.
My 2016 PC is fine besides now needing more ram. 8gb is simply not enough for a work laptop

You're also stupid.
With the same lack of multi monitor support in the M2, the M1 on sale makes a lot more sense.

Yes. Why do you care 'how'? It should be enough that it does! Nobody here has has the time to explain caching and memory swaps to you.

How can a laptop that easily edits 4K video get bogged down by a simple browser?! Unless, of course, the browser was badly coded. Chrome is an inefficient resource hog and will bog down any machine. If you use Chrome, you should already know this. Try using a better browser before blaming the laptop.

Buy the laptop at Costco, and if you feel the need for AppleCare, use the gift cards to buy directly from Apple.

Sorry. I didn't realize that he was talking about the gift card that came with the laptop purchase.

Am I the only one who noticed apple posts insanely high resolutions that the display can handle, but only gives you the ability to scale it to 2/3 its maximum potential? I had to download an app on my devices to update the screen resolution. This isn't just one Mac either, it's a 13" MBP, 12" MacBook, 16" MBP w/m1 max, and a MacBook Air.

Apple scales it down, gives you the ability to go up a little, but never near the full potential. Not sure why they do this. Give us the option
