For the ones who didn't stack a bunch of PS Plus subscription before they switched over to the new tier system:

If you were on PS Plus and are now under PS Plus "Essential", Sony is giving you the option to upgrade to PS Plus "Extra" or "Premium" for a flat fee of $100/$150 no matter how many years of "Essential" subscription you have left.

So what you want to do if you are interested in getting into "Extra" or "Premium" for cheap is buy a couple 12 months Playstation Plus Essential for $45 after coupon 10PAYPAL (selecting PP as payment. One time use but it look like they go by IP address...I was able to buy a couple using different devices on different networks. Buy like 2x12months with the coupon then another 2x12 months with a device off Wi-Fi as apparently the cap for the coupon is $108 thanks @dopeyman06 for the tip! ) and then upgrade to Playstation Plus Extra for a $100 flat fee (or Premium for $150) no matter how many years of Essential subscription you have remaining.

Do NOT buy the old PS Plus cards as Sony disabled the option to stack the subscriptions on those so they are only for one year, first time subscribers.

(I bought subscriptions until 12.2028 then upgraded to "Extra" see pic below)

OK let me try to explain again:

You had PS Plus that was converted to PS Plus "Essential" under the new PS Plus Subscription 3 Tiers system. You can add 12 months of PS Plus Essential for $45 from the link above (instead of $59).

Now Sony is letting you upgrade your PS Plus "Essential" subscription to "Extra" or "Premium" tier for a $100/$150 flat fee (which otherwise would cost you $40/$60 extra a year) no matter how many years of "Essential" subscription you have left . So stack as many years of PS Plus "Essential" as you can and the cheaper it will be to get the "Extra" or "Premium" Tiers (the break even point is at around 2 years, anything after that makes the tier upgrade cheaper and cheaper)
You can stack membership for any amount of years (not sure if there is a limit). Instead of paying $100+ per year with the new subscription model you can just pay 45 per year and then convert the membership with $100. Example you buy 10 years at $45 for $450 and upgrade for $100 totals $550. If you pay $100 at original price you saved $450
I'm confused

For people who have used the $100 Extra upgrade option, do you still have an option to upgrade to Premium for $50 more for unlimited years?

I think you have to pay 150. That's what it shows on my account. Not sure if I made the right decision to get extra

When I look at my essentials plan it says next payment 3/2/2026
If I upgrade to premium or extra, the next payment is 3/2/2025.

They're taking a year off (so -$59.99) and charging for the upgrade.
$100 for essentials upgrade and $149.99 for the premium upgrade.

I have 971 days left. The actual upgrade cost to 1335 days:
+ Listed Upgrade Fee
+ Loss of 1 Year at Essential rate
+ Addition of 1 Year at new Plan Rate (to adjust for year removal)
(Upgrade_Fee + Essential_Year_Deduction_Value + Plan_Year_Addition)
Essential to Premium: 149.99 + 59.99 + 119.99 == 329.98
Essential to Extra : 100.00 + 59.99 + 99.99 == 259.98
Essential (Do nothing): 0

Value of 1335 Days
Essential: 1335 / 365 * 59.99 == 219.42
Extra: 1335 / 365 * 99.99 == 365.72
Premium: 1335 / 365 * 149.99 == 548.59

What it should cost to upgrade (Upgrade_Plan_Value - Essential_Plan_Value)
Essential to Premium: 548.59 - 219.42 == 329.17
Essential to Extra 365.72- 219.42 == 146.3
Am I missing something? Why are they removing a year from the plan if you upgrade?

I'm willing to pay more to be able to suspend my subscription when I'm not using it in a few years because my life is more busy. Spending hundreds of dollars and betting this subscription is worth it has a cost too. You could invest that $500 in the market and double your money in 10 years.

I have the same 1 year removed when I look at upgrading on the website.

The upgrade cost also seems scaling, I had a renewal out until 3 Jan 2025 and it was $80 to upgrade to Extra, now I added a year via eneba (total cost was $44.39 via a different vendor that had it in stock) and now it is $99.94 to upgrade to Extra ($149.91 for Premium).

You are responding to something other than he said and quoting him as if he's arguing something he's not.

The original person complained that the old Playstation Plus was increased in price. It was NOT. That's a fact. And that's what the FreedomPenguin stated; no price hike for PS+.

You are talking about PlayStation Now, which was something completely different than PlayStation Plus. But FreedomPenguin is absolutely correct in that PlayStation Plus is exactly the same as it was before this change; same service and same price. It is now just renamed to PlayStation Plus Essential.

PlayStation Now has been discontinued and its services rolled into the higher tiers of PlayStation Plus.

If someone before wanted to download and play PlayStation 4 games, they could do it with PS Now. Now they would need a PS+ Extra or Premium tier. If someone wanted to stream games before, they needed PS Now and now need PS+ Premium.

For those who do not want or need streaming, they will actually save money on the new service **if** they also usually have a PS Plus subscription. For those who want to stream games, they will pay the same if they had PS+ before and more if they did not have PS+.

I'm personally coming out way ahead on this new service because I bought a 3 month PS Now subscription before the switchover and it converted my PS+ subscription to PS Plus Premium until 2027.
congrats

people who used PS now are now shafted

How may years of PS Plus Essentials (and the old PS Plus Codes) can be stacked before paying the $100/150 flat fee upgrade? BTW, the CDKeys deal is live at $39.99.

That $39.99 is the old PS Plus code, that doesn't apparently work. You need the Essentials code. I stacked 10 years, and upgraded to Premium. Good till 2032. Hopefully I'm still alive at that point. Big Grin
