Edited to clear up any confusion.
I have three Teamgroup 1TB SATA SSD's .

First one in a PS4 that shows no real improvement over the stock drive. I even cleaned any dust from the unit when putting the new drive in but the fan now runs louder now than ever before.

Second one as a data only drive in an old personal PC relegated to Temporary File Storage (aka poor mans file server). This is used 95% for just data retrieval, and it is bad (per their SSD Testing software) within a year. I had no need to encrypt it as it was in a locked server room in my house and I have had several issues w Bitlocker at the Enterprise level at work. It is now read only w a lifetime of both personal data and PHI on it, so I cannot ship it back. I explained this to them but it appears I am out of luck unless I ship that drive, with all that readable data exposed, from the US to Taiwan.

The 3rd one I have not installed yet and, based on the other two, I'll just eat the cost on that one and chalk this purchase up to experience at trying to get away w inexpensive storage vs the Samsungs I have everywhere else.

So, in short, you do get what you pay for when buying off brands. Personally, I'll be spending the few extra dollars even for cheap, basic applications, for name brand, reliable drives from now on.

Any input on a decent preforming good priced 2tb nvne for a game drive in my pc? Think my Seagate Firecuda SSHD is on the way out.

Specs for this item are substandard for today's standards and not in line w/ PCIe Gen 3/4 from what I can tell.

You're lucky! I had a 2TB Firecuda fail catastrophically without any warning a few months ago. I had a backup but not a recent one, so I lost quite a bit.

I decided it was finally time to replace the 2015 MSI Stealth it was in. Now using the stock 1tb Samsung that came in my new MSI, and picked up a 1TB Evo Plus, which is fantastic. I'll probably look for a deal on a 2TB Evo Plus soon to replace the slow original drive. Lots of us have had great luck with various Evo refurbs, from Best Buy in my case. Refurb hard drives scared the crap out of me, but you can pull the usage info on these NVMEs and verify that they've barely been used (probably customer returns), or else return them.

You really aren't notice a practical difference between this, a decent SATA drive and a wowie 14000 MBps PCIe 5.0 drive.

That $84 1TB SN850 was a great deal though...

Steer clear from TeamGroup. Everything I bought from this company never lasted. RAM, SSDs, Micro SD cards &, etc.
I'll never use any SSD but Samsung. Don't have time to lose everything for a few dollars

How fast are these on a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot?

Wow, much higher speed from the WD SN850 drive. I would definitely pick the WD over the Team Group for a boot/OS drive. It is a royal pain when the OS drive fails, so it's important to have the highest quality drive for that.

However... for secondary use case (storing data, non-boot drive) I think the Team Group is a solid option. I have a Team Group drive for my boot drive on my new system (I know, I shouldn't have done that Smilie); it's a MP33 and has similar speeds to what you mentioned above. I do not notice slow performance on my Ryzen 7 5800X system with this drive. Maybe if I swapped out the Team Group for a faster drive I'd be blown away by the big speed increase, but I really do wonder if I would even notice.

For now, the Team Group is working fine for me. (Side note:1st MP33 failed in less than a day during stress testing; replaced w/retailer and bought the same drive from Amazon as they shipped next day; the 2nd drive is working fine since about September of last year.) If/when the Team Group fails, I'll replace my boot drive with a higher-quality NVME. So far so good.

You probably wouldn't notice, PCIE 2.0 x4 (which is what this drive uses) gives you 2000 MB/sec bandwidth while PCIE 3.0 x4 gives you double that.

If you lookup the specs for this drive they say Read/Write: up to 1,800/1,500 MB/s.

Keep in mind these are theoretical maximums, if the real world you may not hit any of those speeds outside of ideal conditions and benchmark tests.

TL;DR you might see a 10-20% decrease in performance on sustained reads, but since PCIE 2.0 is what your system supports it's going to be a limitation no matter what drive you use. A 20% decrease in performance means it takes 13 seconds to read a 20GB file instead of 11 seconds.

Apparently a trash non redundant system. When this lying goober said "file server" they meant "desktop PC with a single 2tb shared drive". They are apparently also dumb enough to gimp their PS5 with this drive.

I would not recommend this drive, but I would also not recommend taking any advice from that idiot.

I'd probably go for the WD Blue SN570 at $89 but this looks pretty good for even less.
You will be a lot happier and more pleased if you spent the few extra $$ and put in the WD Blue here, IMHO, BUT if the desktop is mostly used for everyday browsing, surfing, doc edit etc etc then go cheaper as you won't really notice the difference!! Where you will notice it is in gaming type situations or heavier work loads of such!!

It wasn't my PS4 and I know little about them. I just put the drive in for the kid but I followed the video on YouTube. IIRC, it had me back up the PS4 then download the factory image from Sony's website to a USB drive. After I swapped the mechanical drive out w the SSD and blew any dust out, I used the USB to install the stock OS. I then restored the backup. Everything worked fine except for a few sign-ins.

The first thing I do after installing any hard drive is to encrypt it. You could use Bitlocker, VeraCrypt or Linux Unified Key setup (LUKS) on Linux (some examples). Then, run a SMART test on the drive or run other diagnostics/stress tests to ensure it doesn't die out from "infant mortality". If the drive is really bad quality, these stress tests should cause it to fail if it is a dud and poor quality.

After doing those tests I am reasonably confident it will last a while. Then I can use it for data and if the drive fails within the warranty, because the data is encrypted, I have no concerns sending it in for RMA/replacement. If they can decrypt my data, they can have it! Big Grin
This drive sits in an old Windows10 Desktop w a bunch of installed programs, so I just locked it in my server room and relegated it to file storage until I had time to get all the programs and data transferred of it. I didn't bother encrypting it, especially w Bitlocker as I had to sweat out recovering more than a few Bitlocker randomly locked drives before. I did stress test it and it passed. I have the drive backed up on my NAS w WD Reds so, my only real issue is my viewable personal data on it but at this point I'll just remove the read only attribute on the drive and write zeros to it with DDRescue and see what happens. I didn't anticipate the drive failing as a storage drive or, as you mentioned I would have encrypted it.

The drive in question was sitting in my old Windows10 Desktop w all my tax software etc ... It was relegated to only light file storage as I never got a chance to transfer all the programs off it. However, to answer your question, I use
XigmaNAS for my NAS w WD Reds and Debian for all my other servers in VMs.
