I have a setup at home...but I have yet to pull a single good-tasting shot. I like coffee, and I like espresso-based drinks, but the few places I have tried straight espressos from were all extremely sour, which makes me think they were not pulled correctly. Same with my home pulls. I think I just need James Hoffman to come do some pulls for me. But the margin for error with pulls seems to be pretty small, so I agree that most people aren't going to sit there for hours pulling shot after shot and wasting coffee beans to dial in a setup.

With that being the case...when I feel like getting a coffee (not very frequently), I tend to just grab one from Starbucks. The Dunkin's I have had have all been way worse than anything I have had from Starbucks. Neither was anywhere near as good as the coffees I have had from Baltimore Coffee & Tea Co. though (both regular coffees and espresso-based drinks).
The margin of error is greater and the taste profile is wider for a pour over or Chemex. You also require bigger grinds on these brewing methods which makes cheaper grinders still a viable option to get a good tasting pull.

Remember, the best cup of coffee you can drink is one that consistently tastes the same. Spend a little time working out the kinks in the beginning and once you have it right (grind size, consistent water temp, bean selection etc), you can save your settings and get that same delicious cup every morning.

Ah thanks for answering what I was gonna ask. Was thinking about ordering one for the entire office if that worked.

ah one of the indoctrinated - almost literally drinking the kool aid.

If that coffee is $5 a day thats $30 a week (lets take one day a week off) thats $6240 in a year.

Shit really adds up, i make $80k a year and no way in hell am i waiting in line (there is ALWAYS a line for SB in my area) to pay a premium for SB coffee.

To you its great. To me its sub-par. Dunkin and McDonalds tastes better IMO at a much lower price (for McDonalds anyways). I guess i just don't have a sophisticated SB palate
That math and logic is off.

$5 a day at 6 days a week = $30 a week
$30 a week at 52 weeks = $1,560 year

Don't forget you are already buying coffee elsewhere. Your loss isn't the $1,560 a year but the difference in cost for 6 days a week worth of coffee you are buying elsewhere.

Compared to a McDonald's latte
$3.4 a day at 6 days a week = $20.40
$20.40 a week for 52 weeks = $1,060.8

You spend ~$499.20 more a year going to Starbucks over McDonald's. I believe you get a few more oz a cup from McDonald's but even if you factor that in, that's a long ways from the $6,240 a year you mentioned.

You don't have to be "rich" or have a "sophisticated palate" to drink Starbucks. Idk why people make buying Starbucks a rich vs poor or sophisticated vs less sophisticated thing. It's coffee, buy what you like.

"Handcrafted" Is that like being a Subway "sandwich artist?"

Just get the stuff at McDonald's. A quarter of the price and less likely to get stale coffee.
You get stale coffee if you get their drip coffee. Ask for an Americano and it will be fresh, much better than McDonald's. Or ask for a blonde pourover if you can wait a few minutes. Basically if you're getting stale coffee it's batch brew, and if you're at a coffee shop never go for the batch brew. If you're at a McDonald's or 7-11, well that's all you can get.

Had it yesterday and their refresher too - yeah it kicks my butt to go to Starbucks after. No taste whatsoever, not enough coffee … BIG NO FROM ME.

I know it's silly, but can't they make this available without the app? I'm a rewards member but I do not want one more app on my phone I don't need. Usually offers are available without it. boo.
