To some who are looking for the THD. From my search, the manufacturer does not list the THD. Some guy said that he talked with a manufacturer rep and they stated "THD of 5-7 %..." Which is good for a non-inverter, if true.

Actually that is fantastic for a non-inverter which makes me doubt the accuracy. If the THD was that low, I'd bet they'd advertise it.

There seems to be a misconception out there that you need to get an inverter generator in order to get a THD of 5% or lower. That is not the case. The THD is a function of the generator head physical design for non inverter generators. It costs more to replicate a pure sin wave (low THD) or it is cheaper to give a good approximation of a sin wave(higher THD). Generators that stay below a THD of 5% clearly advertise it. In my opinion, a 5% to 8% THD is a good sweet spot between cheap design vs an expensive design. The downside of getting THD values from hearsay is you don't known if its true or at what loading value it was measured from.

In my opinion, you get an inverter generator ONLY for the quietness of it with the added benefit of low THD.

At larger load capacity, it is typically cheaper to get non inverter generator with advertised low THD below 5% if that matters to you.

It's definitely given too much emphasis. I have a Generac and they told me that they don't publish the THD when it's above 20% I think. I've had it run TVs, computers, routers, etc without ever having a hiccup.

Seems that there is no difference between the two Pulsar models (G12KBN and PG12000B) according to Generator Bible. If you check reviews on both, you'll find the same information that seems to indicate the relatively low THD is true.

BTW I've read that THD values are usually measured at 50% load so this is my assumption that the 5-7% range is measured at 50% on the Pulsar as well. Good thing to keep in mind if you're going to be pulling much higher loads that the THD values may become higher as well.

Hi! I am in the same boat, though I haven't bought the Firman at Costco yet. I am looking for something with a bit more power that is duel fuel for my home. While the Firman is an inverter and also has the nice Costco return factor, I think I might go with the larger generator for more power overhead. Though, I will have to build some sort of shed to decrease the noise level for this Pulsar generator if I go this route.

Decisions, decisions! EEK!
