Cons:
Bluetooth 2.0 is always in pairing mode unless connected to a device and it's not secure as your neighbors could actually accidentally connect.

Poor build quality; will not last long and one speaker could stop working.

Does not turn off unless you unplug it.

Pros:
Sounds awesome
These are the best sounding budget computer speakers on the market. The non-Bluetooth version has been around forever (speaker tech hasn't really changed in a few decades, and if it ain't broke don't fix it). The only negative with them is that the Bluetooth chip has no security check. Anyone close enough to them can connect and play whatever they want on them. I'm sure you can imagine how that could be a problem. It's why these are so cheap. The old non-Bluetooth version, that should cost less, retails for more than these (these have plummeted in price and are probably being cleared out to get replaced with a fixed version). If you don't care about the Bluetooth problem, these are incredible sounding speakers for the price. Costco pretty regularly has the non-Bluetooth version on sale for $70-$80.
"The older version of this speaker is THX-certified which means that it meets some really high requirements regarding the audio performance. THX certificate is the ultimate proof of quality and in order to get it, the speaker has to pass a bunch of tests. The new version doesn't have THX certificate, probably because Klipsch tried to cut costs (the manufacturer has to pay for the certification) and to make the speaker system more competitive (less expensive). In this article, we will be reviewing the old THX-certified version but you should also know that there is no noticeable difference in audio performance or sound quality between the two versions."

These speakers and sub are of low quality in both sound quality and build - do not expect to be blown away, however if you are currently using TV or laptop speakers, then this is a good starting point at $50.

That's how I intend to use mine for an upstairs TV. I don't know why they wouldn't be as long as you aren't expecting this to rival a 9.2.2 Dolby Atmos receiver setup. It's likely quite a steal at $50 though.
Only if you're currently using your TV speakers.

Ah sorry. I assumed since series s it was tv, but same points apply for monitor, although those are less likely to have these outputs.

Holy crap, I took a look behind my monitor for the first time in forever and realized I do have a 3.5mm audio port tucked away between the two HDMI ports. I plugged in a set of dinky wired headphones and sound worked from the Xbox. Previously I was relying on the Xbox Wireless headset for audio.

So these speakers just might work?

How do you get 5% off using Paypal if you don't mind my asking? It seems that sites like Walmart and eBay are difficult to use with cashback apps, as the categories that are covered are always changing. If you have any tips, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

agreed. these are the most overrated speakers on earth and I am a super cheap non audiophile. people love them I assume because the subwoofer is better than average for the price. I'm talking about how people regard them at the usual street price. at 50 they're a good deal. but then maybe they're at this price because people are wising up.

or just clearing out stock due to new model coming or is overstocked.

This particular model has been around forever, and consistently people like it. So frankly speaking, I think it is more you rather than the speakers.

I've had the same set for 13 years. I had to replace the subwoofer speaker itself due to dry rot from age. $18 on Amazon for a replacement. Still going strong after all these years. First thing I bought myself after buying my first house. Got 2 sets at this price just to put in places, sent another to my dad just because. If you own a portable speaker, amazon echo, or a soundbar, this set will hurt your feelings pretty bad. They're by no means audiophile, but they're potent and try hard for what they are.

I have both Costco and this Walmart version and they both emit an irritable buzzing sound when turned on. The Walmart's buzzing is somehow worse than the Costco version. I have mine on $5 smart plugs from Costco but the buzzing is extremely annoying. Sunk costs at this point wouldn't recommend. I don't want to return to Costco but I admit I should.
Take 'em off the smart plug and see if that is the culprit.

The smart plug is the workaround fix for the buzz because I can turn it off when I don't need sound

I volunteer at a thrift store testing electronics. Klipsch promedias rarely come in but often have crackle/no sound in one channel. Logitech Z263 are very solid for 2.1. The bass really is quite strong with the 263

is it too much to ask for high-quality sound in this price range?

I wanna get these for my garage but it gets both weather extremes (over 100 and well under 0)... I know these sound awesome but I've been through a few sets of them and they do tend to break easily. I don't think my garage environment would do it any favors.

But for absolutely anything else this is an amazing deal.
I have a set of non bt in my garage in northern mi for 2 years where it gets pretty cold but not too many 90+ days and have had no issues. I leave them unplugged most of the time cause they're at a vacation home.

Hmmm I just got mine, the Bluetooth mode on these speakers is really low volume. Volume is good through 3.5mm jack but Bluetooth audio is lower than my $15 6" portable no-name speaker. Obviously the quality of audio is 10x better but it's literally 10 db lower volume.
