Similar experiences. Got two monitors both have scratches. But the price is low so cannot complain. However, you can buy this NEW from Walmart right now for $149:

I have both. ASUS has better quality and quite bigger battery.
Screens appear to be the same.
ACER has better speakers, smaller footprint due to thiner bezel and better keyboard.

I got the Acer 15.6 with ryzen 3350u processor so I could enjoy windows with AMD andrenalin software to change contrast, hue, saturation, etc. You cannot do that with a chromebook.

220 ebay special.

17 inch chromebook with no color or hue or contrast or saturation screen adjustment is just crazy.

It does boot to almost any UEFI bootable OS, when you disable ChromeOS verification and enable UEFI USB boot from command line
