Are these TPLink routers getting frequent firmware security updates? I have a different model and it has not gotten an update since 2019. My prior router was an Asus and it would get security and feature updates multiple times a year.
All the latest mesh system and routers in the last 2 years are all getting frequent firmware updates, so they are doing a lot better than they were in the past.

Thanks for the input, the ax55 sounds good. I'm currently using a TP-Link AC1900 Archer c9 that I've had for 7 years, and like it, but have been told I could get better speeds. It clocks about 142mbps, whereas our Inet is capable of 300mbps.

I would be willing to pay from $120-$150 for a much better router; is there anything in that price range that's worth the extra cost?
If you have access to Costco for $120 (AX3200) is extremely well reviewed and its also triband which means if you ever need to utilize OneMesh for more coverage it will work better. It also has a 2.5Gb port which makes it extremely more future proof than routers with 1Gbps ports. Since you only have 300Mbps internet you will never max it out, but you can easily expect to see any device you speed test hitting that 300Mbps as long as no other devices are using bandwidth at the time compared to the 140mbps you are getting.

Fwiw, our TP-Link router blasted an advertisement out to our phones today. The admin app is spamming notifications about Prime Day. Kinda pissed me off that my router is spamming me at 6:00 in the morning about a freaking Amazon sale.

What is wrong with Deco X20? Is it not good enough? I have a two story house totaling 3500sqft. Thinking of picking up x20 3 pack for 170 bucks.

Ooh, that's interesting. I do have a Costco membership. I'll have to look over the details/reviews. My current router is actually fine, but we had Spectrum techs in to take care of a problem that turned out to be their modem, and as an aside they suggested I would see a difference in speed if I upgraded my router to wifi 6. Won't know for sure if it makes a big difference until I buy something new.

You will definitely see a difference, as I mentioned as much as double speeds to a newer device. As the old saying goes, if it any broken dont fix it so if you currently dont need a router you can always hold off. When you get to a point where you notice lag, buffering, or range issues you have a future option.

TP-Link x60 through costco has been around $200 multiple times, its vastly superior in all categories so its worth paying a little more and overall getting a better system when spending this much money.

At this point, its $170 vs $240. What are the features that make X60 better than the X20?

The X20 has a lower throughput for bandwidth on the 5Ghtz band and only 2 antennas. The X60 for a little more ($23/device) has double the throughput and 4 antennas. It also has 2 more streams and a faster processor. The coverage is also about 1200 sq ft more. If you have a slower internet connection (under 500 MB/s) then you will likely be fine with the X20 but if you have a fast connection you will definitely benifit with the X60 for a little more. However if you going to spend the added cost, I would recommed the TP-Link Deco AXE5400 Tri-Band WiFi 6E instead. Its a 2 pk vs 3pk but offers the same coverage as the X60 but is has the newest technologies and a tri-band system instead of dual band to offer a dedicated backhaul

Yes at the price difference currently its a little harder to justify but like i said it reguarily goes on sale at Costco for cheaper here are the big main differences.

First off course one is AX1800 while the other is AX3000 which means more overall throughput.

Design wise while both get great range per puck the X60 has 4 internal antennas compared to the X20 which only has 2 which means better signal stronger connections.

Then you have X60 with 6 streams compared to the X20 with 4 streams which becomes important if your adding a lot of devices on the network who need to talk a lot. Or are centered in certain parts of the house.

Real world performance from the tests I saw, you will be getting around 550-600Mbps from the X20 while the X60 will push around 700Mbps on the top end to a compatible client.

Hope that helped you, like I said if you need it now the X20 is not bad, but the X60 shines a lot brighter same goes for the X55 (watered down version of the X60) which is very similar to the X20.

I am planning on using wired connection for gaming pc, xbox and ps5. Other than that, its strictly going to be for TV, Cameras and Phones. I have 500mbps connection and will be happy as long as connection is reliable and anywhere between 300-500mbps. Also I will be wiring all x20 to the ethernet port at different places in the house.

Do you think this will suffice my need?

Thanks

Thank you for this, for my use case I think X20 will suffice as I am wired up for gaming consoles and gaming PC. Only need mesh for cameras, tv and phones. I have 500mbps connection in 3500sqft two floor home.

On the side note, how is eero6 in comparison to X20? I am planning on wiring the x20 to ethernet so eero6 does not look like a good choice.

Almost all professional reviews I saw listed the X20 as extremely reliable so I think on that front you will be happy, also if you plan on wiring them you will see pretty great consistent performance from all the pucks.

Compared to the standard Eero 6 this is superior as Eero 6 (300ish Mbps) and even the eero 6 Pro have problems breaking past 500Mbps. The latest Eero 6E seems to be even slower and more unreliable so a complete pass till they work out the bugs. Eero was never meant for speed but reliability but in this case the X20 is just as reliable but also performs better.

Thanks, reading through the reviews someone said they received a 1.x hardware and were not getting anymore updates, they said to make sure you get version 2.x
