I don't know if I would trust Newegg with their issues recently. They used to be my go to now they are my stay away from.

Ditto that.
But this is even worse: It's some 3rd party merchant, not even FraudEgg itself. Might have warranty issues at the very least.

So far my X18 18TB drives from 3rd party (Amazon) merchants have all checked out as having 5 year warranties.

I would be really concerned about this newegg 3rd party though, the page says 1 year warranty when you scroll down, and their return policy mentions restocking fees for opened stuff. At least with Amazon you could return a drive for free no matter what.

That means the seller is providing the warranty.

This is the biggest issue, the warranty. This drive ships with 5years warranty, I've purchased some "new drives" that turn out to be used for 2 years and I couldn't return them. Sad indeed.

This is actually not always the case. I just bought a bunch 18 TB Exos drives from the Amazon seller "HyperHawk." All of them have full 5 year warranties from day of purchase. Verified on the Seagate warranty checker website.

It was considerably cheaper than anywhere else ($297 each).

Google around confirms this seller is legit, with some people even claiming this is Seagate themselves selling on Amazon. My own research has shown the seller ( https://www.amazon.com/sp?seller=A2N40LBEAI4KH ) is owned by EP Holdings Inc. So I suspect they are instead part of the Seagate Partner Program and submitted the date of purchase with Seagate to honor my warranty.

You're missing the context of that quote. Newegg is listing a 1 year warrant, not the manufacturer 5 year warranty on the description.

The Amazon sellers such as HyperHawk and Tech on Tech were listing 5 year warranties, and the fine print did not specify the seller was the warranty provider.

You got more to learn. There are some sellers that sell both with 5 years OEM warranty and with only 1 year warranty, which is always a sign that is backed by the seller and not the manufacturer (and these are typically cheaper). You take the risk, I wouldn't on hard drive that pricey. That 1 year warranty could be even vaporware, if seller closes shop tomorrow (and may be even open under new name the next week).
