The 970 plus has DRAM so for large transfers should show better performance. Overall if price is the same I would still go for 970 plus over regular 980. They're both great drives though compared to some other brands…..

just keep in mind the older version of 970 EVO runs "extremely" hot.
i am talking about 60 to 70 degree idle in a open chassis.
the new version of 970 evo runs much cooler.

How do you know whether you get the new version, or the old version? Thank you

Is the 1tb version on Amazon different than this one? That one is currently priced at $99 while the 500gb is $59.99

FWIW, this trades blows with the 980 non-pro. Depends on what your intended usage is, you may prefer one or the other.

I have the older version bought in 2020 and currently runs at 46 deg C in a closed chassis. Never have any temp issue with it.

Intended use as to cache drives for Synology Nas DS1821+

Should this suffice or go with the 980?

I'd go with this over the 980 EVO. The 970 EVO Plus has DRAM and the 980 EVO does not. On the other hand, the Gen 4 980 Pro would be better than this.

This makes the Geek Squad Refurbish 970 EVO Plus that I just ordered for $45 look a little less attractive. I guess I will see what Samsung Magician says about the usage. If the refurbished drive has much wear, I will return it and get this instead.

Help please, can I use this as my secondary hdd on my Thinkpad E580, which has a 2.5" Bay for the secondary. Do I need additional bracket it cable?
