I personally tried hard to get into it, but gave up after a few hours. I think it's well made - just didn't keep my attention.

Maybe people were expecting this war of mine to be a form of entertainment or a game for fun. That is probably a misinterpretation of the art piece.
I believe that from the way it was designed it is meant to show persons who have never personally lived through a war that being stuck in a conflict zone is neither fun nor adventuresome despite the millions of dollars hollywood has poured into movies that make it out to be like that. The success of the title is based on how well it connects the player with the feeling of confinement and despair that civilians in a warzone face and in that regard it is very immersive if given one's full attention.
Should you compare this survival simulator with a difficult or unpredictable 'win' state to an entertainment product or cartoon game like nintendo Wii Sports? No.
If anyone wants to try another challenging title, I think FTL for pc or ipad is another well made game (Faster Than Light is set in space) that has a brutal difficulty level.
