As DealHunter32 points out below, this doesn't have video switching, so just peripherals only. Frown Still handy, but it looks like I'm not getting rid of that PS/2 KVM after all.

I don't think this is a KVM, as it has no monitor inputs/outputs. Unlike something like this [amazon.com]
Clearly you are not in the target population for this device...some people have multiple computers nearby that they need to switch to for whatever reason, like a home server for instance...or some additional hobby pc/micro computer they are playing around with....and for eleven dollars it's a hell of a lot more convenient to click a button and change your peripherals over than it is unplugging and plugging them back and forth, which could be a couple of times per day or dozens per week etc.
I own and use this so much during a day as I have my work and personal computer sitting on my desk and while I actually had multiple keyboards and mice for a while it was nice to clear up desk space. True KVM would be nice as still PITA to do manual Monitor input changes 3x each time I changeover

Why does someone need this?

It's a hub that you can press a button and allows you to switch everything connected to it, to another computer? I honestly can't think of a use for this, other than just a hub.

Who has two computers that close together to need to switch their peripherals over to it? And yet, to far away that you can't just unplug the usb cord to the umhub and just plug it into the other pc…?

Yeah KVM stands for keyboard/ video/ mouse. Cheap price though. If you have a monitor with multiple inputs you can switch from this would save you a few bucks. Not for me but I can see where it might be useful for some.

Was a tech working on multiple PCs at the same time you might never get room for 2 monitors/keyboard/mouse at your station. Sometimes you just diagnose or running the machine and work on a different thing on another. This will comes in handy when you are just switching back and forth. Back then we have the VGA and PS/2 plugs and those weren't plug and play either.

I got a different brand a few years ago for $10 or so and it is still in a box. For mouse and keyboard, I have been using Logitech BT for multiple devices that can switch between computer automatically with their app. One can even copy and paste between computer with it. I have not found a need for this hub with other USB device.

I agree, although if you already have non-multi device equipment which you're satisfied with, this will be a much less expensive alternative. Also, In my case I use a corded mouse and a specific keyboard, which For my specific needs there's no BT-multi device option. This is definitely a very narrow targeted device, but very useful for some. In fact it didn't occur to me these things existed until today and have been swapping usb devices until this new gadget arrives.

I use a USB switch just like this as a KVM. This takes care of swiching the keboard and mouse.

I use a 40 inch 4k 60Hz TV as a monitor with 2 HDMI inputs. I use the TV remote to switch the video. A couple of extra steps, but much less expensive than a KVM capable of 4k 60hz

Got this back in 2020 and use it non stop everyday to switch between my gaming PC and a NUC. Have never had any issues and still works great.
