Actually there is a scheduling mechanism.

Go to the Nest app, select your thermostat and go to settings then manage sensors.

You can select which sensor is used morning, midday, evening and night. I have my setup to change to the bedroom at night and otherwise use the thermostat during the day.

Note that these sensors only work with Gen3 Nest Learning Thermostats and the Nest E Thermostat. If you have a Gen1 or Gen2 Learning Thermostat, or the newest model that came out a year or two ago, this isn't the product for you.

Unless you have a damper system or are manually shutting vents off you're more than likely spending extra money cooling off the rest of the house to have a cooler bedroom at night. You'd probably save money just adding a portable to your room. I have a three level split house with the thermostat on the main level and bedrooms upstairs and use a portable in the bedroom for night. Sure it's kind of unsightly but saves me a fortune as opposed to cooling the basement and main levels all night with no one but the dog and cat down there.

i forgot about these. not a huge sale, but it stacks with the amex/amazon promotion. i ended paying $51.73 + tax for the 3 pack. thanks!

That's correct, and you can't schedule which sensor is "active" throughout the day or week. Essentially you are locked into a temperature on whatever sensor you choose, and you have to manually switch sensors if there is a different room in your house that you want to prioritize. Still, I do like these sensors as it keeps my toddler's room at a set temperature (while I'm sweating my ass off in a different room). If I didn't have a few already I would still buy the 3-pack at this price, but their functionality and usefulness is limited by a few perplexing design choices. Just my two cents.

Curious what would I use 3 for? 2 FL house with a single zone compressor. Thermostat is on the second FL. It cools down faster downstairs.

I was thinking of getting 1 just for downstairs if it cools down there at the right temp then it'll shut off earlier instead of trying to cool upstairs as low?

Yup that would be a good use case for a single sensor as long as your downstairs is evenly temperate. If you have two sections of your downstairs where the temperature is vastly different (example: one section being covered in shade and the other that gets pounded by the sun), you may want to get additional sensors.

You can only change temp based on one sensor at a time. But I don't see how this would be any different than any other thermostat lol. How would a thermostat be able to change temp based on multiple rooms at the same time?

I think what would be awesome is if you could automatically schedule different sensors to activate at certain times (i.e., master bedroom sensor at night, living room sensor during the AM, etc ). Right now there's no scheduling mechanism which is unfortunate.

Actually there is a scheduling mechanism.

Go to the Nest app, select your thermostat and go to settings then manage sensors.

You can select which sensor is used morning, midday, evening and night. I have my setup to change to the bedroom at night and otherwise use the thermostat during the day.
