Best Buy has a lower spec'd Zephyrus G14 on sale for $750 as part of the "Deal of the Day". The better deal IMO is the excellent open box option for $588. It's definitely not for a hardcore gamer but the build quality, processor, RAM, and dedicated graphics in a 3.64 pound chassis is hard to beat for this price.

Keep in mind there is no webcam on this generation G14 models. The speakers are pretty decent and battery life is good with 5800HS. I highly recommend turning off the "breathing" lights in Armory Crate when the laptop sleeps. I find it annoying and many reviewers agree.

While it may have started. If you email ASUS support the receipt, they will allow you to re register for the warranty. You will get the full year, I did this last year with a very similar open box deal.
Most "excellent" open box items can be shipped. Typically it is shipped directly from a random store that has it in stock. I think they don't like to offer "satisfactory" or lower rated open box shipments since you are not able to confirm any product damage or which non-essential parts might be missing. They probably have more returns for based on expectations versus reality.
In my experience...

It's not particularly good imo as a "general use" laptop because the fans kick in too often for a pleasant experience (personally), and the screen size to weight ratio is actually quite bad.

It's not particularly good at gaming either because it has a GTX 1650 with a smaller than usual screen (bigger screens are better imo for gaming) that has slow response times.

It's a laptop for those who don't mind compromising on general usage experience for some gaming capability (and vice-versa)

Yes, this 100%. The fact that people don't know this is puzzling to me. You get a 1-year warranty on most open box items unless Best Buy states otherwise.

Because this isnt the norm. Asus is an exception. Many tech giant companies don't reset warranty period on open boxes, not even for Excellent condition.

I always wanted this model but kept missing deals and ended up buying a Thinkpad P14 but if I can do light gaming on the road I'll appreciate that, also this is much faster than the thinkpad.

I'm a student so I need something for class, I'm not a CAD student which I didn't know the P14 was mad for.

Anyway I'd like to buy this and sell the P14, any tips for where to sell it at? Do you think that's a good idea?

It's odd that the screen specs are not listed on BB. Just says "Full HD" but there isn't any mention of high refresh (144hz) and the "Specs" section is completely missing from the product page.

Are we sure it's 144Hz?

EDIT: I just noticed the photo of the laptop on BB has "60Hz" superimposed over the screen, yet the model number listed shows it's 144Hz [laptopsreviewer.com]

Cant compare because none of the other ones are under 4lbs with a small form factor. If you dont care about portability sure, but many people do.

What about the z13 flow?

Two completely different beast imo. G15 trades performance over portability. This one trades the other way around. So if you game you go with Dell. If you want portability you go with Asus.

That's an entirely different class of computer. The Lenovo is lower line ultrabook with decent specs and a nice screen. The G14 is a mid-high end compact gaming chassis with decent but low specs for its model.

Is that a for sure thing or Ymmv? Reason I ask is because I did that with a used netgear mesh router. It arrive DOA but the csr allowed me to reset the warranty based on my Amazon invoice. However I returned it because they were to slow to resolve my issue. I ordered another used mesh router of the same model but better condition and even more expensive. I tried to do the same thing and the new csr denied resetting my warranty. Luckily this one works.

It's up to the manufacturer I think, but ASUS for sure will work with it.

In my experience, most warranty related claims that sound reasonable are usually accepted. I've warranty repaired thousands of machines at my job across various manufacturers, many of them have already adjusted for the risk, and as long as it could be interpreted as covered in their policy, they'll go through with the warranty.

I have the 2020 version of G14 (vs. 2021 version in this post).

Pros:
Light
Can handle most games + multitask
Can change the fan program. Highest temperature that I ever reach is 87 C.
Decent community on reddit.

Cons:
Screen is not worth the 1k price tag. I use hub to connect to 2 extra monitors. Extra cost.
Wifi driver is terrible. I have wifi drop 2-3 times/week. Since I use it with docking station, I connect Ethernet cable to it.
Need to clean fan every 2-3 months
Good info, Thanks for sharing !

That is more expensive. It is however lighter and slimmer.
