you need to get with the times. lately nvidia has driver issues.
Show me on the doll where AMD touched you. If you don't care about ray tracing, this is a great card and way better value than Nvidia. If you care about ray tracing, different story.
I mean 700$ for a gpu that wipes the floor with a 3080 is a decent deal.

As someone who ran Crossfire HD5870 GPUs back in the day, I agree. There's an Nvidia tax for their GPU, but their drivers are better than AMD. And because the pay developers to cripple AMD GPUs, most big games will run better on Nvidia. Just look at any game with Ray Tracing, the RX6900XT is about 40% slower than the RTX3080 12gb. Nvidia has their RTX Ray Tracing built into UE5, any games using these popular engines is going to run RT much better on Nvidia GPUs. If you're spending $700 anyways, might as well spend the $100 Nvidia tax and get the better RT performance.
RT performance lol. Just turn that shit off and enjoy your game. Lots of Google warrior saying stuff to about driver also out of date. I have both 3090 and 6900xt, both game very well. The only thing to watch out for is 3090 is better at encoding and extra vram for creation work. As for just gaming, both brand are fine, don't listen to fanbois. Money is the brand you want to go for lol
PS AMD also idle high if the monitor doesn't turn off, not too big of a deal if your PC turn off monitor while inactive.

Raytracing is won't hit its prime for another 5 years or so since graphical progress revolves around consoles and modern consoles cant really raytrace. You won't get any serious attempts at raytracing until the PS6 and the attempts I've seen so far don't impress me for the performance penalty. With my use case, loading up HD texture mods, I'd rather have the extra VRAM as nvidia skimped this generation.

That said I don't do rebates. If this was $700 no rebate it would be very tempting. I'm very staunch on my unwillingness to do anything rebates. If I break that rule it will only encourage companies to keep doing rebates. I won't.

A glut of components should be around this winter with zen 4/AM5 and raptor lake coming along with new graphics card launches ... In no hurry.

I'd like to add, it was AMD first gen Ray vs Nvidia 2nd gen Ray. I don't think it's software but more like hardware limitations. So for those who still prefers Rays, I would suggest you wait until next gen, which is 2-3 months from now, because those cards will have better Rays both AMD and Nvidia.

If 4k gaming is what you are into, I would suggest 3080 12gb. Gigabyte 3080 12 gb was on sale for 730$ and it will come again. Also Nvidia supports Forum VRR if your display is not AMD free sync like a Sony TV.

I paid 1.5k for mine back in Jan. Played the hell out of Enderal with tons of mods. Totally worth it.

Granted I sold my 3070 for quite a bit to get the card, you guys who bought it a 700 still made it farther than me.

Both current gen consoles use the same RDNA2 architecture as the current gen AMD PC components. More gamers are playing on AMD GPUS than nvidia right now. Game optimizations are almost always console first which means AMD first.
I've been gaming too long to realistically compare console "optimizations" to PC. Lousy console ports are a dime a dozen. Consoles use spoofed checkerboard rendering for 4k
Its like putting a Chevy Sonic and a Corvette on the same level because they are both Chevys. Someone could potentially mine crypto with a console but they don't because it sucks

Do AMD cards have high idle power usage? How many watts do they use in idle mode w/ monitor on?

Around 30ish watt instead of sub 10watt. Doesn't happen to all monitor though but that's still a thing. There's some reddit threads for it regarding timing standard to reduce middle usage.

This is nonsense. The Series X has similar raw power as a 6700XT

Been AMD for 7 years now but their drivers are making me consider the switch to Nvidia (currently on 5700xt, vega56, rx470 prior). Destiny has been unplayable for 3 years now.

Pretty good price for a 6900 XT, but I prefer not to buy any Gigabyte branded products. On the flip side, I was able to snag a new ASUS TUFF 6800 XT for $612 from an auction on eBay during Prime Day so there's that.

There is nothing wrong with this statement. AMD does very well at 1440p, but it gets worse as it scales up. The 3080 12GB is a faster card at 4k than the 6900 XT. It's not a huge difference however.

Rdna2 for whatever reason scales worse as the resolution increases.
