Soundbars are great. I'm not an audiophile snob. But I think at a certain point you are really better off with a middle end speaker and receiver setup up at the $1000+ price range than whatever you get with a soundbar. Even a 5.1 setup with a decent sub can be put together for around this price and would sound a lot better.
Doesn't this soundbar come with a sub and rear speakers?
What are the major differences between the 990B and 950A?
You're in luck -- Rtings just made their review of it public and has all the comparison information you could want. https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/r...g/hw-q990b. It's also been highly rated by reviewers in other outlets as well. It's a premium to pay for sure, but if you're in the market for the best soundbar you can get for the money it doesn't get much better than this.

Agreed. I wouldn't pay 1000$ for a 5.1 soundbar and aren't we glad this soundbar isn't one.
This one's got Dolby Atmos in front AND rears.
This one's got wide surround channels in front AND rears that 5.1 doesn't have in either places. When my kid watches train videos I can feel as if the train is going around my room. Unbelievable surround effects.
Also, most people without dedicated home theater room or live in apartments, small houses like me would appreciate not having to run wires from front to back on both sides or pay huge amounts to run them through wall or in other clean fashion.

I just got a samsung sound bar for $700, with MSRP of $1300.
It def sounds absolutely awesome, but I agree that it is hard to justify over 1k for a soundbard. But keep in mind, there are many audiophiles out there.
One thing is for certain. This is not audiophile lol
The 990B has issues. The surround speakers get disconnected all the time for many users. You can Research this issue on google before buying. Apparently Samsung used some bad wireless transmitters.

Mine is fine. Only issue I have is when it connected to wifi I get sub drop out. So I stop connecting it to Wi-Fi and it works fine

What he means is the quality of the sound, that's the one thing you sacrifice with soundbars.
A good 5.1 properly setup will easily give you better sound quality than this soundbar.
Even what you described a good 5.1 can do that, hence the name surround sound.
Object based sound(ie Atmos/DTS:X) is built on top of that and takes it even further, hence the name Object based.
If you believe you're actually getting 11.1.4 of quality sound, completely your choice.
If you were to hear a proper "Atmos" setup, regardless whether you were an "audiophile"(whatever than means) or not.
You would understand your are only getting "surround effects" and nothing remotely close to 11.1.4.

This sound bar actually sound much better than a cheap 5.1 put together. The only thing this soundbar can't beat is my dual Klipsch 15 inch sub when I use to have the full setup. Science win here becuause size does matter when it come to sub. But it is good enough for me to kill the traditional setup for a much cleaner and sleeker look with no wire ruining all over

Exactly. A lot of these folks bring in age old bias against the soundbars without realizing how tremendously they have improved over the years. If you don't want to believe me, maybe you'll listen to this well respected YouTube reviewer who gave top marks to the previous model year of this exact Samsung soundbar. He also said "I'd happily forego a proper home theater setup" which after owning one of these I completely agree. https://youtu.be/9PrqnL70Z5I
I got in on the 950A deal for $699 ($499 after I used a $200 GC I received from another deal). I am replacing an entry level 10 year old 5.1 system powered by an Onkyo AVR and Energy Take Classic speakers. My older system cost me about $800 back then but the speakers are even cheaper now and sound way better than their price tag.
I am able to easily switch to compare these speakers side by side. The 950A isn't a massive upgrade over the Energy speakers but they are definitely better overall, especially regarding the soundstage which is very impressive and very immersive.
Other good things about the 950A:
Easy to setup and install, took me about 15 minutes
Soundbar connects wirelessly to my Samsung Q70A, no HDMI cable need
Smarthings app works well and has some decent options
Alexa and Google Assistant built in
Wireless sub AND rear speakers
The 950A is a keeper based on what I paid but if I had a budget over $1000 I'd probably be looking at separate components. I say probably because wiring a component system can suck depending on where it's being installed.
All things said, the 990B at $1300 is probably the best wireless Atmos soundbar system out there and think a good choice for anyone looking for a system that's simple to install and sounds great to the majority of people that will be listening to it.

I actually have the 950a as well. Comparing the two I would said the 990 is a tremendously huge improvement. I would skip the 950a even at 699 which I got recently

If you think 950 is good you are missing out lol. I went from 990 to 950 and was hugely disappointed even at 699 price. Ended up reselling it for profit same week. Not even worth it to keep for that price in my book. I rather hold out for 990 to fall in price or spend a little more if I were you
