There are deals popping up on eBay all the time for 6th and 7th generation Intel CPU desktops with SSD and Windows 10 for less than $100. Seller sent me an offer on eBay item number 394187094679 (search sold items) today for $94.70 shipped, just because I viewed his listing, although it sold since then. It's an Optiplex 5050 SFF, i5-6500, 8GB, 128GB SSD, fresh load of Windows 11.

Check in at eBay regularly and set your search criteria for:

Desktop Computer
Price: less than $100
Sort by: newly listed

Your deal will show up sooner than later. I recently picked up a Dell 3040 SFF ready to go for $60 shipped, and it's a wonderful little machine. Looks brand new as well. And has native 4K HDMI output for my 4K monitor. Good times.

I had my eyes on the Dell Optiplex 7040 in the other thread but am looking at this Acer as well. I really wish this acer would power a 4k monitor at 4k@60hz but sadly it doesn't sound like it will. I really don't want to mess around with the added cost of adding a card to this.
In this price range, that may be tough to find built in. But you never know what new deals will hit tomorrow.

Does anyone know what the cheapest card you can get to install in this that'll do 4k@60hz?

Also is this an nvme drive in it?

Yes, NVME drive.

I got the Gigabyte GeForce GT 1030 GV-N1030D5-2GL [amazon.com] for the i5 version of the Acer Aspire XC, should work with this i3 version. Does support 4k@60hz and includes the low profile bracket but not sure if it's the cheapest.

double the RAM for about $25, here's a couple options...

$25 [amazon.com]

$25.50 [newegg.com]
I had seen people comment on Amazon that some of this memory caused the memory to not operate at the top speed. Any comments. I also see there is a Coursair brand that might be good. Even if more money, that might be a better way to go. Thoughts or recommendation.

I think mine comes in on Tuesday.

Get the cheapest. An off-the-shelf PC like this almost surely doesn't support XMP so the RAM will run at 2666Mhz or 2400Mhz. Without XMP/overclocking this CPU only supports up to 2666MHz. Having two equal size sticks allows dual channel operation.

Cheapest card that can do 4k@60Hz over HDMI (HDMI 2.0+) is probably going to be a used RX550 or RX460 on eBay, which will likely be a little cheaper than a GT 1030 or GTX 950.

(This is assuming you are trying to drive a 4k TV. If you are trying to drive a 4k monitor with a DisplayPort input you can get an even cheaper card, I think something as old as a Quadro 410 has a DisplayPort 1.2 output which can do 4k@60Hz.)

Thanks for the info. Still looking into this as an update to my Dell Inspiron 3847 with an i5-4460 processor.

I see a lot of comments about replacing the fan on this as it's pretty loud but maybe that's only on certain ones? I just really wish this had displayport on it for 4k@60hz that way I wouldn't have to buy a graphics card.

Decisions, decisions...

Here's how I am using this desktop

- 2x NVMe (moved the 256gb nvme to a PCIe and installed a Samsung evo pro 2 tb as the primary drive)
- 3x SATA
- 32gb RAM
- The integrated graphics don't support 3440x1440 60p so I plugged in both HDMI's into my same monitor, enabled SBS picture mode and used the merge outputs feature in the intel graphics app.
-Windows 11 is awesome!

I also got 2x 88 Celerons running proxmox+docker with a few homeserver apps. Got another 88 Celeron set up at my parents house for backup, connected through both tailscale and cloudflare tunnel. These machines from Acer are simply amazing and these acer deals are at the top of my favourite slickdeals of all time.

Get one while you can as they will eventually run out of these machines to sell.
So will the integrated graphics in this support 2560 x 1440 (QHD) @60hz?

I've never heard of SBS picture mode. Can that be used in windows 11 to to 4k@60hz over hdmi in this machine?

How much of an upgrade for me?

I am looking to replace my 5ish+ year old Dell Inspiron 3847 with an I5-4460 processor. It has 8gb DDR3 Ram and I 1TB HDD (no ssd).

I am trying to decide what option I should go with. I like the idea of this being on Win 10 which my Dell currently runs but I can upgrade this Acer to Windows 11 when I chose. I also like the (2) year warranty which offers some peace of mind.

Ideally I want my replacement pc to be able to drive a 43" 4k monitor @60hz which unfortunately this won't do so I would need to add a graphics card and probably another 8gb of Ram. I'm ok with the 256gb ssd drive.

I could do cheap with this Dell Optiplex 7040 which has 16gb ram and 256 ssd. As a bonus it has (2) display port 1.2 which will do 4k@60hz. Basically I could use this Optiplex as is but not sure how much life it would have left it in. If I knew it would last me 3 years or so until Windows 10 is end of life it would be a no brainer. Here's the link to it:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...OMVD&psc=1

My other option is to go with this new Dell Inspiron 3910 from Costco for $500 - it has an I5-12400 and 12gb of ram. The link shows out of stock online but they have a bunch at the Costco's near me:

https://www.costco.com/dell-inspi...53478.html

Open to suggestions and or criticisms (lol).

the i3 is actually faster than my 4770. Depending on what you are doing it will be a massive upgrade. And it should be way more energy efficient as well. Im looking more for an unraid upgrade so I want a more standard mobo that will work in my current case .

You can always look around on ebay for older workstation cards. Something like this Quadro P600 [ebay.com] supports 4k @60hz and up to 4 displays at that resolution. Heres the tech sheet on that card. [nvidia.com] Old pulled workstation cards are quality stuff for the price.

That Cosco Dell computer option looks solid, with the exception that it it is running on 12GB RAM. That is a stupid spec at that price point. 16 GB RAM should be included at the $500 desktop price. Just my opinion.

Thank you for the info. That card seems like a viable option for me if I decide to go with this I3 Acer rig.

Yeah the 12GB of Ram is strange but it looks like it's (1) 8gb stick and (1) 4gb stick so shouldn't be too bad swapping out the 4gb stick for an additional 8gb stick. I'm still debating what I wand to do.

Knock on wood my current Dell Inspiron 3847 has been rock solid for me so I wouldn't be too hesitant to buy the Inspiron at Costco. I did see someone post this in the reviews for the Dell Inspiron 3910 on the Costco website:

The SSD is from Toshiba that has lower TBW (Tera-byte-write) than Samsung's that translates to shorter life span. The worst is that it does not come with any software to monitor the TBW to know when the SSD is about to end its life.

I've never used an SSD drive so not sure if this is something to get my panties in a bunch over or not?

Also the Costco Dell comes with Windows 11 with installed and I have no experience with it so not sure what to make of that.

Got this a week ago and had the jet engine fan problem. Ordered a new fan, opened up the case, and noticed two of the heat sink mounts were completely jacked up and only one side of the heat sink was secured to the MB.
