I'm not sure why the knuckle draggers are downvoting you for that comment on here. I have a 3070 xc3 and would gladly give $30 for the FTW. It's quieter and clocks better.
I did not really like this card on 1440p. The problem is the .1% min. I have a 3070 XC which has been retired to bedroom duty and I left the 2080 super in my main computer. It's better with games like fallout 76 or destiny 2. You just don't drop frames like the 3070 did. The 3070 does have a higher overall FPS. If you just watch YouTube videos you're going to think it's better. If you actually play games and care about things like latency the 2080 super is better. it's more consistent. If the rumors are to be believed the new 4070 should be close to a 3090 which would be amazing for 1440p. You could run 165 FPS and really turn up the settings without having much in the way of frame drops.
I would ride it out for a while. If you see a killer deal on a 3080 in a couple of months, it may be worth picking up only because the new cards will not be discounted until 2023 most likely.
I have a 980 ti as well.
I am wondering if I should wait for 40 series?

what you're seeing now is closer to what we should be paying, it should be lower tho
in what world does one need to pay $2,000+ for a high end card that cannot even do high fps at 4k? you now see 3090 prices coming down to $1,200
the 3070 is...... $500+ for a 1440p card that struggles with RTX? c'mon
prices need to go lower, this is a 70 level card, they used to be $299
even w/ inflation i'd just randomly assign $399 because it's the mainstream mid end card
