Don't worry kids, when you get older and hair starts growing "in those places", you won't have to worry about looking to a shoe for "vindication" of your social status. Wink

Buy yourself some Allen Edmonds and thank me later. You can go to a store get fitted and then camp out on eBay for second hand. You'll get a good year welted shoe that will last you a lifetime.

Bought a pair of nunn bush shoes at my local farm fleet. Soles are cracked all over heels after like 2 months of casual wear. Not even hiking just walking. Huge disappointment

I used a pair of Clark Tilden loafers for similar price, as seldom used dress shoes a handful of times a year for weddings, special events and holiday parties. How do these compare?

Good price, but I'm a bit of a shoe snob. If a dress shoe doesn't have a leather sole I can't bring myself to buy it :/

It's a much better savings to buy a really good pair of shoes, for about $200-$250. They will look good, and last for 10-12 years. Don't buy Cole-Haan though, they're expensive, but flimsy. When I was young and poor I used to by Nuun-Bush. They look good, then wear out in about 6 months. Alan Edmonds is the best (and really great when they're on-sale), Johnston and Murphy is good (used to be may fave until they off-shored the manufacturing and quality, but they're getting good again).

Did this in 2012. Still have the same 3 pairs. Quality then was much higher and pricing cheaper. Got sick of buying cheap shoes or trying to find the rare deal on something good through Ross or TJX stores.

Great shoes back then that can last decades. These days with WFH, they don't get worn often!

My dad had pairs of Church that he wore for 30 years.

Same, will never buy another pair from them. Literally fell apart in a couple months. Even cheap walmart shoes hold up better.

I have what I consider "nice" shoes, but I don't wear them everywhere I go. These are just every day shoes. Case in point, I had a business trip to New York a few years ago and took some shoes that looked similar to these. It rained for most of the week I was there and some of the places that I had to survey were construction site offices that was pretty disgusting. Sufficed to say, after my trip I wound up throwing those shoes away. That's the point.
