Green and Blue are cheaper than Black. Osprey Aura is an equivalent backpack in women's sizes and is also special in purple. This is an excellent backpack very comfortable, durable, and well designed. At 4 pounds 10 oz it is too heavy for through-hiking but otherwise an excellent choice.

just wanted to thank you for actually responding/explaining in a non-condescending manner, and adding your own personal experience. weird how many people can't stand a joke (although to be fair i guess was the third person to make one in the same vein)..but i'd still rather have someone attempt to make a joke than crap on a deal they don't care or know nothing about, which seems to happen far more often.

After taking this pack on the AT and using it for years, I can confidently say it's a great pack.

It is comfortable, fits well, distributes weight properly, is durable…and I also wouldn't buy it again because 4 pounds, 13 ounces is simply too much.

For $200 it's an excellent pack. But that weight is tough and I found myself getting jealous of people who paid the same price for packs that weighed half as much. Just something to consider carefully when making your choice.

Just YouTube backpack fitting. While everyone's torso to leg length ratio is different around 5'10" and taller you are probably going to measure yourself needing the L/XL size.

I bought some boots from them very recently. They are legit. It did take a week before they shipped but after that they came in a reasonable amount of time.

Nothing wrong with the price or product. My wife's Osprey Aura from 2008 is still going strong after at least 250 miles of trekking.

Only issue is…first time I'm seeing "Bob Leisure". Address and phone # listed make me think…..meehhhh. Hope they aren't related to Leisure Suit Larry.

If you have an REI nearby drop in and ask them to measure you. They have a tool and it takes them 10 seconds to tell you.

Oh, and don't forget to tell REI that you're buying a backpack elsewhere for $130+ cheaper than them. laugh out loud Honestly I don't have a lot of sympathy for REI. I could claim that I have issues with their recent unionization debacle, or that they reduced their returns window, or that they axed their help forums... but if I'm honest with myself it's just because they are unforgivably expensive. They have identified outdoorsy types as generally affluent and have set about to milk them for all they can. Not for me, thank you!

Great bag, and good price for it - but I'm not sure if this price is really unusual. In my experience osprey bags are often SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper when buying from Europe. Not sure why. But I got this bag for $171 shipped to US a few years back.
i agree. i got my exos 48 osprey on amazon uk and saved about 100.

Correcting my post, this price is for the small version

$200 for Gray on Amazon, a little more for Black. WAY better return policy. Lol

you are not the target audience. I paid $250 for this bag and it has been great.
I also bought an $800 ultralight tent.
Backpacking can get very expensive if you choose, but this is fairly middle of the pack cost-wise as far as backpacking gear goes.
You might not be aware this is a backpacking bag at all though
Well seasoned hiker here (ok, pushing old) in N Cal and I've tried the frameless sag bags, I (others too) go back to our our old school external frame packs for long distance, multiday use when big loads are the norm. I hate the way the internal frame bags ride lower on the back and pull down/back vs external up higher with most weight on the hips. Long live the Jansport K2 and Kelty Tioga and Yukon (still made) and these can all be found on ebay for $100. or less. Added bonus with the external frame is hanging gear.
Tents: I've see high mileage hikers all over the PNW and on the PCT and using $100. to $200. tents, but never seen a $800. tent. What tent did you drop that much on?

Good read on external packs: https://www.carryology.com/bags/e...ys-part-3/

That's an older 2018 model. You can tell by the large logo on the backpack that changes over time.

Go to their garage sales. Half my Osprey stuff was 50%+ off because I got them from REI garage sales.

They quit those in favor of an online used gear store... https://www.rei.com/promotions/garage-sale

I looked at some of the used prices and they're laughable. Example [rei.com]

Just another reason to dislike REI now if you needed one.

I have a slightly older version of this pack and can say that it is very good. I would trust it on a longer hike/trek. FYI, I believe that the company still offers a lifetime warranty on them. I have heard of people sending their bags in for a repair or replacement free of charge. I have not had experience myself though.
I can attest. Osprey has been replacing buckles from my bags that are 12 years old. Easy process too.

Running physical store locations (with employees and stock for instant purchase) is expensive. I can understand the prices can be higher at the physical store versus online only stores but I also agree Rei prices are too expensive compared to online.

What's a good bag that's half weight and same price?
