I opened Sofi checking on Jul 26 and completed the $5,000 direct deposit. Got email 4 days ago saying "Nice work! Your first direct deposit just hit your account. We'll calculate your total direct deposit amount over the next 30 days and credit the bonus accordingly. You'll qualify for your bonus 30 days after you set up direct deposit with your employer, and it can take up to 2 weeks for it to post to your account after that"....so I should be getting the $300 within next 30 days.

-Mar, opened/completed Wells Fargo and received in 3 mts (June) the $325 Bonus.
-Apr, opened/completed Chase and received the $225 bonus immediately (same month) after direct deposit was made.
-Today, opened US Bank and setup direct deposit to receive the $400 bonus after 2 or more deposits totaling $4,000 or more.

I am now researching BMO Harris and their $500 cash bonus when you have a total of at least $7,500 in qualifying direct deposits within the first 90 days.

can we do a bank transfer to satisfy the direct deposit?
I just did this earlier today. I've had capital One 360 savings since it was ING Orange Savings and until recently I didn't notice they weren't paying me the interest rate posted on their homepage because they started the "performance" 360 savings account which gets a higher rate. Why didn't they just convert 360 savings to the new "performance" product? Probably so people like me wouldn't realize right away we weren't getting paid the best rate. They said I'd have have a new performance account to get the better rate so since I was a little miffed, I'd have to open a new account anyway, and SoFi is paying better I just moved it all over to SoFi...

I like having the high 2% interest in checking. This will make sofi my primary checking account since I do like depositing and withdrawal money on the same account while earning the interest. Having a savings account requires more maintenance since it is limited to 6 withdrawals a month. I guess all banks have its pros and cons. My 2nd choice is capital one 360. It is a local bank here and it has a savings account at 1.7% interest right now.
The 6 transfers thing was removed in 2020, dude. It's now unlimited -

You sure about that? Call them and ask. And leave if not. Alliant Credit Union ditched it.

I went through this issue with penfed and mybankingdirect last week.

We have to pay pay fees for doing more than 5 transactions and I also paid.

I just opened the Sofi accounts, but what's the difference between the checking and the saving accounts? since they have the same 2% rate, any benefit to transfer money from the checking to the saving? Please advise. Thanks!

When does the "evaluation period" start? The very first direct deposit? Or the account opening date?

Wow...I have just gotten my account opened/set up and been browsing the web page to see how their system works....most specifically for bill pay (which is what I use an online checking account for!)
SoFi seems to be 20 years behind! The bill pay pages are terrible. (I use Cap1 360 for my checking bill pay) With the interest on the checking account I had thought I would be switching totally over to SoFi but after checking out their system...will NOT! There is no way to set up payees that are used monthly. You have to enter them in every time along with account numbers. Crazy that it seems so old and clunky. Every other online banking bill pay I have ever used is super intuitive and feature rich (I've used Cap1, Wells Fargo, Citi, etc) I had high hopes based upon the bonus and interest on a checking account but I will be sticking with my Capitol One 360 account that has all the features to make it quick and easy to pay my bills (keeps a list of all my payees that I can just enter in amounts/date and hit pay!)

Anyone else with similar thoughts?
I looked at their Bill Pay stuff last night, it does seem a bit manual compared to others. But doesn't it keep a list of recent Payees which you can then click to set up the next monthly payment? I can't imagine you have to enter address and acct number every time.

Not sure how permanent and large that recent Payee list is but I think that should work.

Last night I was also testing their chat help, and it is crap (no help at all). Can't transfer money on the desktop, but it works in the appl

My question is -- If you stop the DD at some point, does the 2% interest disappear, or does it stick after a month or two?

I don't see any basic features in the desktop based site with their bill pay (no saved list, no real interface showing past payments, frequent payee list, scheduled payments, etc etc). I was hopeful to have a better interest checking account that i would switch to SoFi for all my bill pay....but it is so crappy that I will stay with my Capital One 360 account that works great, is super intuitive with all the features I want/need . I'm shocked in 2022 that this bank's bill pay service is such junk....an online checking account most basic and used feature is for bill pay. My current online savings account (Citi) just bumped up to 2% so as soon as I get my DD bonus... SoFi is getting closed. 100% based on their crappy website and worthless online help (online chat help was pure crap! the CSR said she had never even used their bill pay and wasn't able to follow my thoughts.....what?!?)

Not sure if your browser is acting up or something, but I see all of what I bolded above - past and scheduled payments are located in the regular Banking tab, and the frequent/saved payee list is in the Bill Pay tab, called Recent Payees.

Not trying to convince anyone - choice is good, pick whatever you like best. I don't mind change, and a leaner interface, so I'll give this a try.

Which online savings account has 2% from Citi? I'm only seeing a 0.15 APY offered on their page. I'd jump on that.

check my screen shot...this is what I get in both Chrome and MS Edge when I click on the bill pay link (https://www.sofi.com/my/money/account/#/bill-pay) Not sure how you are seeing different options.
When I inquired to their customer service....their only answer was "use the android app" dumb!!!
