Oh noooo, what will Costco do without you?

I imagine the harried Costco return desk folks are relieved when you do find better deals elsewhere.
Okay?
I merely told antlive111 that the return experience may not be as rosy as he claims. He said "Costco let's you return anything pretty much". That is not always the case - even when you are being reasonable and within their policy. Not sure what was the point of your snide response.

Sounds like you took my sharing my experience personally for some reason.

So the moral of your story is "DON'T buy laptops/computers from Costco and expect to return them years later". Which is essentially what Costco says in their revised return policy. Electronics like TVs and computers only have a 90 day return policy.

Wut?? Confused
Where the hell did I say that I returned a computer "YEARS later"??
I specifically wrote that all my returns were within a 2-months window which is less than 90 days in their policy:

Quote from cheshirecat View quoted comment :
All 3 returns were within reasonable period of time from purchase date (~2 months).

Quote from Tnyc View quoted comment :
Perhaps you should read their return policy again carefully?
Perhaps you should read my posts again carefully? laugh out loud
And go easy on the condescending tone while you are at it--for your own sake.

Not with laptops.
I returned 1 laptop in 2007 (15 years ago) due to built-in SD card reader issues (it was dead) and 2 after that (also various issues out of the box). Upon 3rd return, it triggered a spiel from the store manager "if our laptops don't work for you, maybe you should consider buying elsewhere". It happened recently. Telling him that the first return happened during the Bush administration and it's unreasonable to not expect some returns over DECADES did nothing to him.

So, apparently returning 1 piece of electronics once in a 5-year period on average despite those pieces having issues is a no-no.

All 3 returns were within reasonable period of time from purchase date (~2 months).

Apart from those 3 computers I had no returns for any items whatsoever with them EVER.

Costco is not what it used to be. Maybe it was just my store being shitty, but I would say thread with caution.
One experience isn't representative of the entire company.

We frequently buy multiple products (various sizes, similar but different items, etc.) and return what we don't use. Despite the frequent returns, we've never been questioned for them.

I never had an issue with Costco returns until recently. I tried to return an *unopened* pack of Duracell batteries where the batteries had exploded. The rep said I couldn't return them because it had been more than a year since I bought them. I looked everywhere for where Costco's return policy says "You can only return unopened AA batteries for a one year period," but I couldn't find it anywhere. I was tempted to call Costco's 1-800 number for clarification, but decided it probably wasn't worth my time.

The rep was courteous, but it was a shock to me that they wouldn't take them back. FWIW, the batteries had been in a drawer in my home office desk the whole time, so it's not like I left them outside to freeze in the winter…

Edit: I should also say that I think a one year return window for AA batteries is reasonable. It's not Costco's fault if 16 month old batteries explode in an unopened package. I was just shocked because Costco has never pushed back on anything I returned previously.

Ha, so unlike a SD thread to get derailed. If you're truly interested, there is a NYT Wirecutter review where this model received their highest recommendation:

I know there's been a lot of chatter on this thread about Costco returns. While I've never had Costco NOT return something, they've "reminded" me how long ago we purchased the product upon return (we returned an umbrella almost 5 years after we purchased it). I didn't even realize it had been 5 years. When realizing the length, I told them don't worry about the return as that's probably the realistic life of an umbrella but they still took/processed the return. Every store might be a little different but Costco probably weighs questionable returns against how much a customer shops at their store.

Sucks about the battery situation, though. That would peeve me a little.

I think Costco is the right party here…. stop buying from them … try and do it anywhere else and you will see what happens
