My experience with the $500 gift card deal from the previous round (https://slickdeals.net/e/14751227-verizon-wireless-port-in-a-phone-and-bring-your-own-device-byod-on-unlimited-plans-get-450-line-now-5-3-21-650-line-now-to-9-30-21-500-line-must-stay-for-12-months#commentsBox)

Ported in Nov 26 2021 with 6 line; mix of the Get More and Play More lines at $40 per line. I therefore expected to have a yearly bill of $2880 + taxes and fees for 12 months) against gift cards worth $3000; so expected to cover a full year of unlimited phone plan. Actuals were slightly different.

1) Upfront, there is a $35 activation fee per line.

2) You get the gift card only about 7-8 weeks after the sign up; deal requires you to stay for 45 days to qualify for the e-gift card (and to stay for total 12 months in order not to lose it to clawback).

3) As such, you have to pay upfront for the first month (cash or bank debit to get the $10 per line discount). Note that most credit cards do not qualify for the auto-pay discount; only debit cards / bank payments or Verizon's own co-branded credit card qualify. You can use the e-gift card that you get from this deal to pay for the bill or for any merchandise you buy from Verizon (phones / accessories etc.)

4) Initial bills (from start to May 22 : 6 months) were at $267.xx per month (40 x 6 lines + approx $4.5 in taxes and fees per line). From May onwards, Verizon increased the taxes and fees and total bill coming in at $275.xx (taxes and fees at approx $6 per line).

5) First bill total was $ 442 ($175 for activation + $267 for service) : paid from BANK.

6) Next 11 months expected to be $2985 ($267 x 5 months + $275 x 6 months) : paying from e-gift cards of $3000 received, so essentially free service.

7) If you plan to move out after all gift cards are exhausted; need to plan for a partial month to avoid any clawback of the $500; so allow for upto 1 month paying cash ($275 for a month in my case).

Net for 13 months service : $3702 : less $3000 e-gift cards : $700 for 6 lines of unlimited service; or approx $9.7 per month per line, which is still a good cost relative to other unlimited plans.

Additional benefits :

1) 1 subscription for DisneyPlus + Hulu + ESPN included : that's worth about $150 (when I signed up) to $240 (current pricing); since I did have a subscription earlier, that is a saving.

2) 6 x $5 gift card through Verizon Up and a phone case for 1 cent; I haven't been rigorously monitoring the Verizon Up rewards, may have missed some.

3) After the initial 45 day period, you can upgrade your phone / take advantage of any discount offers from Verizon. Note that most of the offers directly from Verizon are with 36 month bill credits; however, Best Buy occasionally has discounted full payment offers. I took advantage of the recent Flip 3 offer at $299 (and traded it in for a $900 discount on a Flip4 bundle at Samsung). Note that each "upgrade" with a Verizon branded phone attracts a $35 activation fee; swapping your own unlocked phone is free with eSIM, I was told by the Verizon store that they got a circular that physical sim may be charged going forward, not yet verified.

4) If you do have a cracked phone and can get one of the discounted / trade in offers with a cracked phone - that MAY be worthwhile to take the bill credits for upto 11 months, especially if your cracked phone will get you nothing in normal trade in offers elsewhere. You'd have to take the bill credit route and pay off the balance in full when you choose to cancel service; but getting around $220 as the effective trade in value for a cracked phone is still decent.

For those looking at this as a "free 1 year service on Verizon" - hope this helps you. Compared to any alternative options for unlimited, it's still a very low cost (< $10 per line for a 13 month period); even if you are looking at alternatives like the Mint 4 GB / month, it's still competitive (Mint 4 GB / month at $180 for a year x 6 = $1080 vs $700 here along with Disney and discounted phones).

Also - note the advice from mser4fun : You need to comply with the "keep the device active for 45 days" and avoid the clawback / chargeback of the $500.

T&C state "Gift cards can be used to pay a Verizon Wireless or Fios bill ...", so no, not only for merchandise.

I shifted to Verizon close to 15 years ago for the better voice quality and what I thought would be better coverage. Changing because of the voice quality was well worth it as AT&T was just terrible for my ears. Coverage on the other hand was not a clear winner by any means. Lots of places whether it was in or out of town lost signal with Verizon whereas AT&T was there.

I'd add to that too that anytime I go into a Verizon store I feel like I'm walking into a room full of scammy used car dealers. I never felt that way with the local AT&T store. No offense to used car dealers but there's a certain group of you that you know who you are and what you do.

I chatted with a Verizon Sales Rep and asked about the BYOD $450 with qualifying plans 5G Do More, 5G Play More, and 5G Get More using promo code BYOD450UNL from 8.13.22 to 12.31.22.

Verizon Sales Rep said they couldn't see it so transfered me to Verizon Customer Care. Verizon Customer Care said yes that promo is still active and can only be redeemed through Call or In App when signing up. Let them know you want to activate this promo and not the $500 bill credits over the period of 36 months.

I've used the GC's to pay in full over the last 10 months; did not affect the autopay discount. On occasion I've split it across 2 GC's to close out the partial balance in one.

On Verizon's payments FAQ (https://www.verizon.com/support/auto-pay-faqs/) - any credit card (other than the Verizon Credit Card) impacts the autopay discount. Bank payments, Verizon Gift Cards and the Verizon credit card are eligible (to see this, login to your postpaid account, go to "set up Autopay" and read there; there's a line that says "You must use a checking account, savings account, debit card or Verizon Visa® Card as your payment method. Other credit cards are not discount-eligible. " Verizon gift cards are treated similar to debit cards, not credit cards.
I got my GC today and am on a bank-account autopay. What is the process to use the gift card without compromising autopay discount? Do I just pay it manually via GC once the bill arrives? The autopay doesn't still pay the amount, only what remains after the GC payment?

I understand you can prepay with the GC; however I haven't tried that out. I was told I could go into the Verizon store and have the staff help me pre-load all the cards.

What I did was : When the bill notification arrives, I login to the account; click on the billing and payment link, then use the option that says "pay bill". There is an option to split payment across 2 cards if you have a lower balance on the first card and want to close it out; that again is a little tricky, so instead I use the "pay partial amount", enter the first card details and use it in full, then the "pay remaining amount".

Since you're starting with a new card - you can just add the first GC and have it pay either the full amount or a part amount (with the remainder going through autopay). Note that the GC doesn't get stored; I kept a separate file (excel, or notepad) where I tracked each payment and hence the balance remaining on the card(s).

Fantastic walkthrough. Thank you!

Notice that on the app there is a BYOD promotion advertised for a 450 gift card, not bill credits. Are there two separate promotions running?
Have you had success using the $450 e-gift card promo?

I'm not going to do another byod promo until next year so unfortunately won't find out. The promo seems to be valid though, might be the last chance to get a gift card and not monthly credits. If your planning on taking advantage just call in and specify you want this promo, like another poster suggested.

*** Update *** I have confirmed with Verizon that it's fine to pay the full amount using gift cards without affecting the auto pay discount.

Also, you can check the GC balance here: https://www.verizon.com/od/produc...balance/#/

Yes, I am new to Verizon and just did this myself. Here are the steps:

Log into your Verizon account, then go to the Bill section (https://www.verizon.com/digital/n.../viewbill/)

Click the "Payment options" button

Select the "Pay in full" option. Then click "Continue".

On the next page ("Okay, how would you like to pay?") under "Let's start with your payment method" click on "Add/edit payment method"

On the "Add or edit a Payment method" page, scroll down and select "Gift Card" then click "Add method". Enter the details of your gift card (card # and PIN). Note: you will also be able to check the card balance here.

Once you've added the GC and are back on the "Okay, how would you like to pay" page, make sure the GC that you just added is selected and the payment amount is correct. As for the payment date, it will default to today's date and I would leave it as-is so that you can see right away whether the GC payment was successful or not.

And that's pretty much it.

Anyone was able to get this offer recently?

i chatted with them but unsure if i can trust someone over chat. he's said its 3 year contract and i am fios customer so i got an email about if i bring 4 lines, it will be 20$ per line for welcome unlimited plan and he's saying i can get that plan. sounds too good to be true. but 450$ only works on high tier phone like iphone 12 and above.

if anyone able to get more information please share.

Make sure you don't pay the full amount using the GC, you want to leave a little bit to the autopay in order to keep the autopay discount.

Use of Verizon GC doesn't void the autopay; I used the GC through last year to pay in full each time, and never had any issues with autopay discount.

I've jumped off Verizon now; the GC period (and the required 12 months) ended; fortunately Visible's 15 off 12 offer came along, so I'm testing that one out. The current Verizon offer of $500 seems to be bill credits over 36 months instead of GC's; I've seen some comments that mention a way to get a $450 GC offer through CS instead or using a different code, but haven't checked that out yet.

That's good to know that you can pay your bill in full using GCs and not lose the auto pay discount - I was told by the Wireless Advocates rep to leave a bit for the auto pay.

Did you end up using this offer? How much is the monthly bill per line with those plans? I am thinking to port 7 lines. Also did you bring high end device like iPhone 12 or higher or Samsung devices?

What a horrible deal. With TMo I have 4 phone lines, 4 cellular watches and home internet for under $100 bucks per month. Of which my job pays $80.
What plans are you on to get it under $100?

Magenta Max. I started a cycle a couple of years ago where I buy the cheapest max value trade in, sell my current flagship phone, and put that money towards my EIP. Get 24 bill credits, rinse, repeat. I'm getting credits that are up to 2 years old that just keep going. My equipment plans are in the negative.
