You're essentially paying $1000 more for a laptop than you need to, which would pay for 8 years of iCloud storage at 2TB. In reality, you would probably only need the 200GB option for $2.99/month, where the break even is 30 years. You can buy a base M1 MacBook Air for $850 (Costco), and put the rest towards iCloud storage.

Houses never burn down, that's why you never pay for insurance.

If you can't afford less than ten bucks a month to protect your data, you deserve to lose it. Apple has a free 5GB tier, and a 200GB for $2.99/month. That's less than a meal at McDonalds or a gallon of gas.

Unfortunately they never do. I see the 8/512 on sale. But never the 16gb model.
