I've been waiting on this deal for a while, and it seems like it hasn't gone on sale recently. saw it for $239 with free shipping and had to jump on it. The last good deal I saw on this set was $299.
I went from echo gas lawn tools to this and would not go back. No regrets
Thanks. I went overboard and got a Echo 2620 trimmer and 2620 edger - now realizing it's overkill, switched to M18 edger and it's decent. Not close to the 2620 level, but enough to do the job.
I have read that the string trimmer has overheated batteries and melted them. Ego's trimmer has been out for years, and is tried and true.
I have the Milwaukee string trimmer for 2 years now. I don't have the problem you mentioned. However, if you use the non high output battery, it does get hot. If you use the high output batteries, no problem at all. This kit included a 8.0 high output. So you should not have issues. I am glad I switched to this from my gas ones.
I've had mine for close to 3 years and it's been great the whole time.

From what it sounds like to me, maybe Milwaukee is discovering the possible limitations to 18 volt? I have to wonder, are they developing a higher voltage battery platform? Dewalt has had one for years now.

Sort of? They just announced a double M18 trimmer. So 2 batteries to make 36-40v. It seems it's been in the works for a while and highly anticipated by die hard milwaukee folks.
They also announced a new m18 and m12 handheld hedge trimmers that look awesome.
With the new announcements, I would expect these deals to be much more common until those products are out.

Milwaukee also has a double battery blower now. The Ego one is still almost 50 percent faster blowing speed. That says something.
Sounds like they are pulling a Makita on us with the double battery thing. I like the approach Dewalt took the best? Why? Dewalt's are backwards compatible.
Looks like the trimmer is back in stock but no longer adds the free hedge trimmer?
Yes, did notice that. Even though I ordered before that, I'm worried that the free hedge trimmer isn't in the order. did take a screenshot of the product page.

Good luck...might be best to let it ship and play dumb and see if they'll send it out after the fact
Since I'm already so invested in the Milwaukee M18 ecosystem, I really wanted this trimmer to be awesome, but it's just not. Worst Milwaukee tool I've ever owned and I have A LOT of Milwaukee tools. What a shame.
You would be in the minority with your experiences. Everyone else loves theirs including me. And I've came from using commercial Stihl trimmers, edgers, hedge trimmers etc. If you're using this thing to trim 4' tall overgrown brush to use at the farm everyday this is the wrong tool for that job. Otherwise for the average homeowner, it is incredible.
