Cheap, yes, it's a great price for a basic user. But anyone working with media or larger processes should avoid it.
If you're on a budget but need a quality Gen 3 nvme, spend around 180 on a 2TB SK Hynix P31.
I could be wrong but I read this is a double sided 2TB stick, which is not ideal for many cooling situations.
"Coming in at a sustained post-cache write speed of around 100 MB/s, the PNY CS2130 1TB has a worst-case write performance lower than a modern mechanical 5400 RPM hard drive"

Nice price. Does anyone have a website/tool to check if this will fit in my laptop? TIA.
Looking for the same, please let me know if you find something. I have my M15 Asus Gaming Laptop with a Slot available I just want to make sure before I order
I refer to these as PuNY drives. Had one go out on my many years ago.
Price is reflective the PCIe 3.0s falling in price in recent weeks. Probably going to see more 3.0 deals coming in over the next few months, so don't feel pressure to buy it unless you really need one now.
Depends on how old. I've had the run around on an early 2019 Nitro that had an NVMe slot...but I could never get the darn thing to boot. It would only run as slave after booting windows off the 2.5 ssd. Massive design flaw that even Acer couldn't address via a firmware update.

In Addition to what you said, I'd like to mention from personal experience that NVMe drives also need decent PSUs. I'm having to upgrade my Desktop PSU right now to run one.

Ah I see. Thank you. I thought it was backwards compatible and it would just operate at the old gen lower speeds. Glad I asked!
no wonder why motherboards come with 3-5 nvme slots now
