Not sure what you are talking about. This is a great way to provide an emergency phone to a middle schooler. Handing a smart phone with internet access to them at that age is just spoiling them rotten. For them it's either a flip phone or no phone…sorry!!

Tracfone Tips: (Helpful site: https://www.howardforums.com/foru...fone-Net10)

If new to Tracfone:

Setup a phone then turn off. (You can also do this step after activation.) You don't need to remove the pre-inserted SIM. Phone will not be activated automatically.
Go to Tracfone website and click 'Activate'.
Click 'Activate' under 'New Phone (One you've purchased through Tracfone)'.
Select 'I want a new number' and enter your ZIP code. (or Keep your number and enter port information if you want to port your current phone # to Tracfone.)
Select 'I want to use the physical SIM card' and continue.
Enter IMEI of your phone, agree to the terms and continue.
Activation Request Submitted. Click 'Continue' then the 'Create Account' tab to create a new account.
Turn on your phone. If you already setup your phone, you should receive welcome text with your phone number. (optional) You can text UNLOCK to 611611 (sometimes twice) to check unlock date.
Wait a day or two, then follow the DIY Guide [reddit.com] to activate the 2nd phone, which will have 3000 TTD and 2 years of service.
(Optional) If you want to use an unlocked phone, buy a $1 TF BYOD SIM (TF/Verizon) and follow the DIY Guide to transfer everything over. Tracfone supports eSIM for some phone models.
Do NOT swap SIMs. Tracfone phone IMEI and SIM ICCID are paired. Inserting the SIM that came with the phone in a different one may impact the service/unlock eligibility.

Join the Rewards Program within 14 days of creating an account (Recommend using the TF app to join because previous problem with joining the program on the website. If you have a flip phone, you can't use TF app, so join the Rewards Program right after you created an account on PC, or use TF app on a tablet/different phone to join.).

Download the Tracfone My Account app and log in with your email and password.
Click down arrow on top right of 'Join Rewards' green bar, then 'Learn More'. Click 'Join Now' under 'I agree with the Terms of Use' to join Rewards. (A message "Success: You have successfully joined Tracfone Rewards" appears, click OK.) Click My Rewards. An intro video "Welcome to Tracfone Rewards" will play. After the video is done playing, click 'X' to close the video and you should see a box (Referred by a Friend? Enter their unique code here) to enter a referral code (box also shows in the Rewards home page).

No box to enter a referral code? You can try to create a new account. (proceed with caution)
On a PC, go to https://www.tracfone.com/home, then My Account, Log in (Dashboard), Manage Lines, Select Line (to remove), Device, Remove from Account, Confirm. Close browser.
To create account with an existing line (after being removed from account):
Start browser and check ZIP code: Near top of the screen, there is a default ZIP. If it's not your ZIP, click on it to change to your ZIP.
Click My Account, enter only the phone # (not Email, IMEI, Serial or SIM #), then the 6-digit verification code sent to the phone. After verification, enter a new email not associated with any Tracfone accounts, then a password to create a new account. Close browser and follow the steps 1 and 2 in 'Join the Rewards Program'.

Port out: You will need information below to port out your phone # from Tracfone:
1. Phone number apparently.
2. Account number. This is either the IMEI or the last 15 digits of SIM #. You can text FOUR to 611611 and see if the 4-digit number matches the last four of IMEI or SIM. If you have changed phones, and the 4-digit number doesn't match IMEI or SIM, consider this approach [reddit.com] to find your account number.
3. ZIP Code. The ZIP code you used to setup your account or line. It could also be the ZIP where TF headquarter is located (33178). You can login to your account to check (Manage Lines, Select Line, then click Device. The Details will display Zip Code.)
4. Port-Out PIN. Text NTP to 611611 to get the PIN (it's not your account PIN.)

If you need to contact Tracfone Porting Department, the number is 1-800-327-2077.

Note: Tracfone Terms and Conditions [tracfone.com]:
Tracfone reserves the right to deactivate any phone for which there is no voice, text or data usage for a period of six (6) consecutive months for smartphones and twelve (12) consecutive months for other phones. If your Service is deactivated, your Service can be reactivated by purchasing and adding an Airtime Card. Once reactivated, your phone may be assigned a new phone number. Airtime which remained unused at the time of deactivation will still be available if Service is reactivated within sixty (60) days from the deactivation date, otherwise any unused airtime will be lost.

Sorry, I should say when adding a device to an account with an active line and activating it in August, you get 10,000 bonus points.
If you don't have a Tracfone account, activate this phone, create an account, and join the rewards program with a top-tier referral code, you'll get 8,000 points. If you buy 2 phones, the second one can be added to get 10,000 add-line bonus points in August (regularly 7,000).
Awesome, thank you, repped!

My older child has an existing TracFone line, I thought I would use this one year allotment for my younger child, so you think it's best to activate this TCL phone on the same tracfone account as the first line is on - is that the best bang for the buck?

How long do I have to wait for the points to credit before I can use this 1yr balance in a different unlocked phone?

Basically I just want the one-year service on a separate unlocked phone, but I don't want to lose out on the perks so I'm willing to wait a couple of months if that's what it takes for the 10,000 points to credit, of course if I don't have to wait and can just transfer the balance to a new BYOD Sim in my younger child's phone and STILL get all the points then that would be optimal, what do you recommend?

Yes, be sure to use chat as outlined in 1st post to add this device to an existing line for the 10,000 points in August. (Some agents will think you want to transfer everything to the new device. Put a stop to it if the agent said something like that.)
After activation, wait 60 days to unlock the phone and 61 days for the points to vest. After that, you can request to combine the remaining service to your main line (see 1st post). You can also redeem points to extend service or add data to the main line.

Instead of transferring this TCL line to a BYOD Sim could I just transfer this 1yr service to an existing line that I already have had running with TracFone for a few years?

I believe that's what I've done in the past, my existing TracFone SIM is on TracFone AT&T which I like because I can swap that Sim out from any phone to any phone without having to "register" the newer phone with TF like you have to do with the TF Verizon Sims.

Also, in the past the one year would stack on top of my existing line's TracFone expiration date, is this still the case? I know there are likely a few changes since Verizon took over but I'm pretty sure the full expiration date stacking still exists?
Yes! After you activated this new device, you can transfer/combine the service to your existing line (see 1st post). Wait 2 months before transferring service, if you want to unlock this new device (on day 60) or get rewards points (vest on day 61) to redeem service or data.

I don't see your first post on mobile app, I checked the wiki also. The first post is by butcher boy.

Can you copy and paste all of that good info as a reply to this comment, maybe it's just not showing up on my mobile app?

Use Chat to add a line! No need to mention bonus points at all. Tell the agent that you'd like to add a new Tracfone device to your existing account (xxx) xxx-xxxx. The agent will ask for the new phone IMEI (sometimes SIM # but it's really not necessary for a TF-branded phone with the original Verizon SIM) and send a 6-digit code to your main line for verification (this is key for points to be added). If the agent asks for your 4-digit Account PIN, do not give it to them. Sometimes they will ask for your email, don't provide that either. Remind the agent that this is to add a line to your main account, you already have an account PIN, and you don't need a new profile. Some agents will think you want to transfer everything to the new device. Put a stop to it if the agent said something like that. Some agents will try to activate the new device before adding to your account, do not allow this to happen (no points this way). Ask the agent if they could add the device for later activation (should be Yes). Check your account in TF app, the pending add-a-line bonus points should appear within 30 seconds once it was added (the agent would tell you that). You may need to close and reopen the app to see the points. After you see the points in the TF app, you may proceed to activate, either ask the agent or do it yourself in the app. (click on the inactivate device, then activate device. Select New or Keep Number. Enter ZIP code for new #. Skip payment since this comes with 1-year service. Follow the instructions.)

Use Chat to combine lines: After the phone was unlocked (day 60) and points vested (day 61), you can move the data/minutes/text and remaining days to your existing line. Check and type in Note the balance (buckets/days) of both phones before you start a chat with TF. Once chat started, tell the agent that you'd like to have the remaining buckets/days of phone number (nnn) nnn-nnnn added to phone number (mmm) mmm-mmmm, and like to keep phone number (mmm) mmm-mmmm. A verification code will be sent to the donor/new line, and the transfer/combine will start shortly. Ask the agent the balance on each phone. If s/he refuses, type/copy the balance of each phone in chat box and ask the agent to confirm (providing the total and approx. expiration date helps too). After the process is complete, main line will have all balance, and donor/new line will be deactivated (inactive; unlocked).

If I'd like to harvest/move the plan on the OP's phone to a newly ported in phone and number, are these the steps?
  1. Have online chat add the OP's phone to my existing Tracfone account.
  2. Pay $1 to buy a KYOP SIM card from Tracfone for the phone to be ported in.
  3. Do I need to pay for a plan on the ported-in phone and its number or can I just skip to the next step?
  4. Move the OP's phone's service plan (optionally wait 60 days first) to the new SIM card on newly ported-in device? But I'd like to keep the phone number that was on the device originally, not the random phone number assigned to the OP's device when I activate it.

I'm going to rep you again when it lets me, thank you for all the help you have given to people on this chat I just went through pages of these comments and you and energyx have so much knowledge that you are sharing with others, much appreciated.

Question: why do we have to use chat if we are adding this TCL phone as a second line on an existing tracfone account I thought you can just do it right in the website? Thereby not risking dealing with an uninformed chat representative.

What is the best way to maximize the points? 8000 points for the first line and then 10000 points for each subsequent line? 4 phones should generate 38000 points and that should be enough for a couple of iPhone 11s???

It's because the website method of adding a line has been glitchy in recently months, making it likely that you won't get the add-a-line bonus points. But if you don't want the points or don't want to wait the 60 days for them to vest, you could just use the website.

The Tracfone Rewards System is broken. A lot of times the add-a-line bonus points are not credited. If that happens, you need to call TF to manually add the missing points, and it takes a lot of time and sometimes multiple calls. It's safer to use chat to add a line for the points (better chance of points showing up.)

Yes, if you don't have an existing account with an active line. Create a new account and use a top-tier referral code to join the rewards program. Use chat to add lines (see post #5). You need 40,000 points for 2x $300 off phone discount codes. No easy way to get 2,000 points beside referral or add-a-line bonus.

You have an existing Tracfone account with an active line, and you'd like to port-in a number from a different carrier? You can use chat to add this device to your account for the 10,000 add-a-line bonus points. You can then ask the agent to activate (or do it yourself in the app, select 'Keep your number') and provide port-in info (phone #, account #, zip, PIN) to port. The new phone will be eligible for unlock on day 61, and you can move the remaining service on the new device to your existing line on day 61 (after points vested).
