What happened to the Gamer's Lounge? There used to be tons of discussion on all kinds of new games and consoles and deals but now this place seems dead. Did a bunch of people get banned or something?

Where did they try? Some places in Boston are proud of their "bar pizzas" which I think are trash, generally. Pizzeria Regina is good, famous North End place though they have other locations, too.
I didn't ask since I've no plans to ever be in Boston, or really anywhere on the East Coast if I can help it. But knowing them, it was probably mostly bar pizza.

i wouldn't call it that. it was really a mercy killing. they did everyone a favor. speaking of mercy killings see all the businessmen in russia die by suicide...?

bar pizza is middle of the pack for me when it is done right. i find a lot of bar pizza isn't done right, the crust is undercooked/soggy/floppy because they use too much sauce and cheese. i don't mind too much cheese to be honest but it can cause crust issues.

Eight since January, I believe. Don't forget, suicide can be an epidemic, especially if the KGB is behind it.

"Too much cheese" is definitely a high bar for me, rarely achieved by the likes of commercial pizzerias.
Dirty Dave's here in town offers a "3D Pizza" featuring more than a pound of cheese that locals have described to me as more of a cheese casserole. Definitely planning to try it one of these days.

That was toadally uncalled for.

yeah i would use air quotes on too much cheese. the issue with the cheese is that if you have too much the crust doesn't always cook right.

sounds like colorado pizza that someone was talking about before. where it is just a dumpster of toppings on the pizza. a pound of cheese isn't too crazy depending on the size

What godfather said. I also think a mixture of reddit and Discord provided gamers a way to come together to talk, socialize, and get grouped together.

Of course a lack of infusion of new gamers hasn't helped either.

Yeah, I haven't been a huge fan of a lot of the changes over the last couple years (attempts to monetize the platform since they got bought by a private equity firm) and it feels like there are just fewer "deals" in the world these days what with all the supply chain nonsense and inflation.

Did score some sweet folding chairs from REI for 75% off through SD last week, though, so there's always something new to spend money on.

Now that TP is closed (I assume you're reading this a few hours from when I post it), are you going to hide here? Or keep acting like you have a job and know what good pizza is?

I try to put away tech during the summer. Which is stupid, because that's when I have time to for it. But I usually use it to distract from worklife.
Closing TP was a pants-on-head retarded move on the part of the SD management, but I'm sure the parent org that purchased them wanted to distance themselves from any potentially "dangerously unwoke" opinions that might get shared.

It's a shame. I remember when Amazon did something similar and killed the Gold Box forums and replaced it with the hellscape of the new Amazon Deals layout. Yeah, they got fewer people complaining about off-topic discussions but I'm sure there are a lot of people like me who used to spend $10k+/year on Amazon and now barely scratch $1k since I'm just not as motivated to visit the site as frequently.

Speaking of pizza and reddit, WTF is up with r/pizza these days? I've only been following it for a little while, so maybe it was never good, but some of the stuff that I see get upvoted to the front page is exactly that kind of stuff. Gross "bar pizzas" and pies that look obviously burned. I'm not picky about pizza but people are slamming that like button over stuff that I'd be embarrassed to eat even if I was already drunk/high.

there is probably a far simpler explanation for TP closing. it doesn't generate revenue and is labor intensive to moderate. but i'm no doctor.

It doesn't generate direct revenue. Just like Amazon's Gold Box forums. But anything that keeps people on the site, and returning to it, increases the chances that they'll click through to make purchases.

Maybe. But I guarantee they have the data on how much clickthru $$ TP users generated.
