Motorcycle jackets are general more for abrasions and burns due to wiping out at high speeds. The asphalt basically becomes an axel grinder against whatever part of your body is touching it until friction slows you down...by grinding away at you. I'm guessing your concern on an e-bike would be a collision. Unfortunately you're still gonna be a squishy ragdoll in that situation, albeit *less* squishy. Consider mountain biking gear for an e-bike. You probably won't be going the break-neck speeds motorcycles run at which necessitate this kind of jacket. This will also be warm since motorcycles get cold from the wind. Pedaling will make you warm, even on an e-bike. So check out "downhill mountain bike protective gear" if you want to look around. If you WANT to be warm, excessively padded, or just feel cool then maybe it's worth it to get this. Just pointing out its limitations and your other options.
Added a D3O CE Back Pad for free shipping. Just in time for some fall high speed electric unicycling, repped!
Seems like a fine deal. Fort nine mentions this jacket in their best under $200 video. Complaints were the water proof liner cannot be removed so all you got are those vents. Of course, the back protector place holder pad. Tempting price, but I'm going to pass since the main feature is water proofing. I need ventilation in dry Cali.

This site charges $8 per order for return shipping that's deducted from your refund.

Unrelated to the deal, but if you ride a motorcycle, please make sure to a) wear a helmet, and b) register as an organ donor. I think B should be mandatory for the entire population but that's another issue. Unhelmeted motorcyclists are a major source of well preserved/intact organs for transplantation, thus the medical slang "donorcycle". Also never ride escooters while intoxicated, or without a helmet. I have seen a ton of traumatic brain/spine injury from them. Rentable escooters are a public health menace and should be illegal as they don't provide helmets.
B mandatory?

Stop wearing your mask so tight. Looks like you aren't getting enough oxygen.

Yeah it's crazy that a motorcycle jackets doesn't automatically come with one. Atleast they aren't making do an add-on for sleeves and zippers yet.
You should be buying new armor (D30, etc.) every 5 years max anyway. It's usually pretty easy to move it from jacket to jacket as the seasons change, and I'd rather use my nice pieces instead of whatever cheap crap they feel they need to include.

spine > skin

if one is going to be spending any amount of $ on a jacket, one must first understand basic statistics and anatomy.

$59... can't complain about no back armor. The fact that it has any armor at all for that price is great. CE level 2 back armor is an extra $45 but gets you free shipping.

Nice jacket. Pity it's just a bit too warm for my climate (Hawaii).

Is it worth it to get CE 2 armor over level 1 for street riding?

I think my current jacket only has CE 1 back armor and it seems pretty good.

---

edit. actually it's only $15 more. If i ever have to use it in a crash I wouldn't be worrying about the $15.

It's worth it... as you said since the added safety for something as important as your spine is not worth risking it. I personally have tested a back protector in a crash. I got rear ended while stopped at a red lightgon my R1 by a drunk driver who hit me at between 50 to 60 mph and sent me catapulting down the road about 70 feet from the impact point where I landed flat on my back. Without the back protector I might have suffered a life altering back injury... but I was fortunate enough to walk away from it with nothing but some leg road rash. Never skimp on helmets, gloves, jacket or boots.

I am fairly new to riding motorcycles, and hardly have any experience with different motorcycle jackets. I see jackets on Amazon in the $60-$75 range (one link below for example), which also have good ratings. So is the Firstgear rush textile jacket better than those on Amazon (and is that why this is a good deal)? Would be great to understand this.

Don't buy no-name brands for anything protective on motorcycle gear. Just because it's on Amazon doesn't mean it's a no-name brand though. I just don't recognize that HWK brand you linked, but at that price being their regular price it probably isn't great. Firstgear makes decently legit stuff.. not super high end but usually decent quality. Check out revzilla.com and sportbiketrackgear.com to see professional gear review videos by experts as well as written user reviews on stuff you might be interested in. Fitment is a big thing with riding gear.. particularly for sport bikes, so good reviews will often mention how true their sizing runs on a product. You probably should plan on getting at least 2 jackets if you intend to ride into cooler weather or wet weather at all since a cold weather jacket, even with a removable liner will be too hot for peak summer riding.

Get good gloves too... uncomfortable or low quality gloves can really ruin a ride.

What do you ride?

Thanks! This is really useful information. I started riding this summer on a 2022 Zero SR. Currently keeping myself to the commute to workplace and back as I want to gain some experience before taking a longer ride.

First time rider, got a Niu electric scooter 🛵. Driving neighborhood roads at 30-40 mph. Is this overkill/too hot and thus cause me not to wear it/ride in summer (75-85°F)? Alternately, is this enough for winter (25-45°F, assuming I also got those over glove thingies)?

@partyman66 would you consider this a winter jacket? Or a summer jacket that gets hot because it has the inner rain liner?
