To address some common questions in previous threads with this kind of Walmart iPhone deal:
1. You need to be on Verizon postpaid. Upgrade a current eligible line or add a new line to a new or current plan.
2. No bill credits involved. Must initiate a device payment plan. Can pay off balance whenever afterwards and cancel plan or free up line upgrade.
3. From personal experience, I think these Walmart iPhones have US Reseller Flex Policy out of the box; they take on the SIM lock policy of the first major US carrier SIM used to activate the phone. If activated with the included or your existing Verizon SIM, it's locked to Verizon for 60 days, etc. From a similar previous deal, I accidentally activated the phone with an old T-Mobile SIM and carrier locked it to T-Mo. Don't know what happens when you activate using a prepaid or MVNO SIM card though. Regardless, you will still owe Verizon the total amount financed.

Also I didn't get the option to pay this phone off yet even though I've had it for about a week. Someone else mentioned that it took a couple of months for one of their lines to see the device installment plan to show up. I think there's a risk you could be stuck waiting for the option of paying off the phone if that is indeed the case, but it seems most aren't dealing with my problem.
Overall, I don't think it's a bad idea. By the time Black Friday comes around you should likely be able to have paid off this phone and be able to trade it in. It's also easier than finding which used phones give max credit value.

No and yes.
I'm not an expert, but if I recall correctly, the Franklin gen, after the Coolpad gen I got, were locked and there is a hack on the web to unlock it.
CoolPad is locked too with no way to unlock it, but Mint worked on it, perhaps cause Mint uses T-Mobile network.
