I bought this during the last deal and my 8 year old nighthawk was better. Sad. Maybe i just need to make some tweaks?

It seems I have better speed now but my devices and ring alarm keep disconnecting randomly.

That's not good to hear. What's the most solid router out? I really don't care about max speed. I also would like to run two in wired bridge mode

Interesting that Netgear calls this an access point on their website while the Amazon description says router. But it does have a WAN port. So is this just differences in marketing speak or is there anything functional that's different from a typical router?
Originally, Netgear only set the firmware up to support an access point mode. With firmware version 1.0.4.0, Netgear enabled the ability for it to be a router in the firmware: https://kb.netgear.com/000064371/...=000064371.

How is this versus the Belkin Dual Band AX3200 Wifi 6 Router, 3.2 Gbps, White (RT3200) I got from the Walmart deal a week or so back? I haven't opened it. Gonna set it up for my apartment.

See this post

The Netgear has an older, slower CPU. 2x2 antenna configuration on the netgear vs 4x4 on the Belkin

My 6+ years old free T-Mobile TM-AC1900 (Asus RT-AC68) is much better than it...

This one has WiFi 6 on both 2.4 and 5.0 ghz bands whereas the RT3200 only has it on the 5.0 ghz band. The 3200 does have a faster processor, but if only using these as dumb access points, I don't think the cpu matters that much. I just picked up another one to use with openwrt as a dumb access point.

I have the Walmart router and found it has good phone tech support, and when the router works, the router works.

What has not been good is this router does not like to be turned off. Go on a vacation trip and turn it off, or lose power, and this router wants to be refreshed to work again.

All other routers I had simply turn back on and remember what to do.

Also, when it was new out of the box, the password rule was normal, but the last needed refresh and software update created tedious byzantine alpha numeric rules more complicated than the White House nuclear football codes.

Personally, I don't recommend the Walmart Belkin, but it might fit well for other people.

The Belkin is rock solid if you install OpenWrt on it [github.com].

I got this last time there was a deal. I used it AP only with the firewalla purple as the router. Worked well. Only got rid of it because I got some mesh tp link decos on sale.

Would anyone reccomend upgrading to this from a tmo/asus router? I don't really want to have to flash custom firmware, just want to use it.

If it is like my old Netgear R8000, The WAN port is used to connect to the main router/switch when it is set to the AP mode so that you still get full use of the provided ethernet ports on the AP.
