Good deal! I bought two from Microcenter a few months ago for $50 each. Used them as access points to expand coverage on the edges of my home network (garage, patio). They work great!

This is a bit of confusing ,
Question: Is this an access point or router?
I am hoping it is both.

Anyway I ordered one and see since I am in the market for one, thx op.

We have a Netgear Nighthawk R6700 with 43 devices attached. Speeds are pretty good, but we get dropped connections several times per week. Would this be a reasonable replacement? (Although since we use the USB on the Nighthawk I'm guessing this could work as an extender? If so, would this let us connect more devices overall? Sorry if it's an obvious question for those smarter than me!)

The answer is both cause most routers can be configured to be only an access point if need be through their configuration pages.

First off let me start of by saying I didnt even know this router existed, but for the price of $30 its worth buying to just try worst case scenario. Now yes this does not offer a USB port so what you could do is turn off the wireless on your netgear, and use use it for your routing and for USB sharing, and then configure this new netgear in the exact same spot as an access point to handle all the wireless traffic. Its simpler to do than it sounds and it should be covered in the manual. Now this router is rated at 1200 sq feet coverage so if you live in a bigger home this might not be enough but those numbers can be very off depending on location, as for covering 43 or more devices, yes it should without a problem.

Overall for people with older gear who are afraid to spend a lot this is worth a shot, but I have not seen anything on it so I cant say it will work out perfectly. Risk is worth it though.

Defaults to router, can be switched to AP.

So can I use this to replace my wifi/modem from xfinity? It's one box that handles both. I'd like to stop paying monthly to rent it from them.

No, this is just the router part, you still need a cable modem, but they are readily available at Walmart, target, best buy, Amazon, etc

I dont know about range, but I would still say yes to both of you, newer hardware, and should see a little bump in speeds.

As I mentioned earlier, I didnt even know this router existed, but its does. I have not read or seen any reviews on it so how it actually works is a complete unknown.

The specs say its rated for 1200 sq feet but just like anything range related its a complete crap shoot.

Will this be a better router than your TP-Links in term of performance yes cause of the newer hardware and the newer standard. How reliable or anything else this router is, will be the real questions. For $30 if you really need a new router you should probably get it if the $80-100 routers are too much for the pocket book. Worst case scenario you dont like it and you return it, its amazon so hassle free returns.
