my impression of all the positive things they have to say about this product is due to the fact it contains allot of pine waste called HydraFiber. HydraFiber products are made using renewable and virgin loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) wood and bark from reforested farms.

I do a lot of gardening and seed starting, and I've never heard of HydraFiber. I've purchased Coco Coir and Peat Moss, both of which expand, but I've never heard of HydraFiber, and that makes me reluctant to purchase.

I use Coco Coir and Peat Moss and have never heard of this either.

Not too distract from the thread.
I do the same but always have issues with my seedling being thin when indoors. No issues outdoors. I literally have everything I need except a greenhouse and grow light. Do you start your seeds indoors and if so, do you use a grow light? I'm trying to find me a good grow light that will cover about 4 trays of seedlings. If you have one, can you give some suggestions. I've looked an it's so confusing with all these light. I take it I want something the mimics the sun as close a possible. Any ideas? I would appreciate it. It's very frustrating to have weak seedlings.

And I got the dreaded root knot nematodes this year. Garden is almost gone. Now, I have to till it, add crab meal, till it, plant mustard as a cover crop and till it before it goes to seed. This is will reduce or eliminate it but I will always have to use crab or shrimp meal for the chitin and the mustard is used for biofumigation. Then plant marigolds all over.

I start about 300 plants indoor every spring, been doing it for 10 years. I use 4 ft shop lights with 5000K T5 bulbs, they work well and are cheap. I keep the lights at about 3-4 inches above the plants, and hang them right next to each other. So far so good, very healthy plants. Going to try some chainable LED shop lights next spring.

Thank you very much. I kept seeing the T5 bulbs being mentioned. Can you tell me what type of shop light? Does it come with the T5 bulbs or are they bought separately. Or better yet, do you have a link to one?

I was also going to hang the lights by chains above the trays. I think this ideal as I will be able to raise it some if I can't get out into the garden right away.

Again, thank you so much. Repped!

Does anyone know what the fertilizer is? I try to stay as organic as possible. They do not show the back label of the package with the ingredients.
Sta-Green many times will not say organic on the package but it actually is.
Anyone know, please comment. Tu ✌️

IDK but there's a link on the product page for CA Prop 65 warnings, so I'm a bit suspect.

For thin seedlings I recommend a grow light and a fan. Without a grow light they will be reaching for the light and without a fan they won't toughen up to resist wind.

I put the fan on a smart outlet and run it for 15 m once or twice a day.

I put the grow light on a smart outlet too and run it for about 15 h a day.

There are a million light options. Here's one I bought a couple years ago: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074SG33M2

Thank you cevamal. I actually bought this one yesterday from Home Depot - Hydrofarm Agrobrite 216-Watt 4-Tube 3-Way Hang Fluorescent Fixture with Lamps FLT44 - The Home Depot [homedepot.com] for 116.85 plus tax. I used my military discount and went through I-B_o.tta CB and it's already shipped free via FedEx. I'm going to try using 4' T5 bulbs with two trays. Your comment reminded me to go and look for the adjustable mounting hardware to hang the lights. If these work out well, I'm going to get some more. Depending on my tray size, I can either plant 2 trays of 32 for 64 seedlings or 2 trays of 64 for 128 seedlings.

I didn't even see the lights for individual trays. These would also be very handy so I may pick one up to try it out. I can see many benefits to this style.

Yes, I do use a fan to try and mimic out door wind but didn't really use any timers on it so this is something I need to look into. I don't use anything smart but I guess I could try a couple of these smart plugs. I'm not sure if I need anything else to use them but shouldn't take long to figure out. It's Ironic because I was an IT Engineer for 20+ years but left it over 12 years ago. I haven't really kept up with any of it. Don't care anymore about working on 50k to 1m dollar routers, switches, or what not. I just want to enjoy my days in the yard and garden. And I had mine last lights on a 16h timer which popped on around the same time as the sun comes up. I would shorten the timer some based on the amount of sunlight for the day. The seedlings would bend towards these lights but still stretched. After looking into it further, I found out it wasn't enough light nor did I have it close enough. No issues sowing directly in the ground but I'm new to starting seedlings indoors. My last batch of seedlings didn't turn out well mainly do to light. I think I may have actually got a handful of healthy plants but the others didn't make it.

I appreciate your time in responding. That's one thing I like about fellow gardeners. They're willing to help and share. Repped!
