Just some notes on this:

- I own the Gen 1 pencil- it's awkward to charge as you either have to plug it in with an adapter that's easily lost, or you plug it into your iPad and it sticks out the bottom.
- The battery life isn't that great
- If you're thinking "I'm not sure I would use this" you definitely won't.

Unless you absolutely need a Pencil right now and only afford this one, avoid and get the Gen2 for the wireless charging alone.

I got a knockoff pencil from Amazon and works awesome. Apple even detects it as a Apple Pencil. Used Ringke pen holders and now it's glued to the back of my case. Works awesome if you want one and not spending much $

If you want to go to a knockoff, go get one with at least thousands of reviews. There are a couple of them with thousands or even 10k+ reviews.

It also doesn't work with the iPads that the Gen 1 Pencil works for.
I have a newer one it does work for. Worth it for $20. I doubt I'm gonna get $7o use out of it.

Couldn't even get mine to pair.

Geez, $70 seems steep for the older model. Anyone who hasn't bought a digital pencil like this before, question your need before buying. I purchased one for a different device and have never used it, while my mother who draws a lot has also not used the one she bought as well. Basically, just make sure you have a need in mind before you buy, that being 3 things: need, correct hardware (we have the iPad mini, and its a bit small for the pencil), and willingness to get the apps to utilize it (the notes app is a bit lacking in features, you probably will want to purchase an app that can get full use out of the pencil), or you will be looking at it occasionally wondering why you bought it.

Will the Gen2 work with Generation 1 iPads?
Gen 1 and Gen 2 are NOT interchangeable. Which model you can use depends on which iPad you have.

Figures that this deal would pop up now. I bought one open box on ebay for this much a few weeks ago because my kid is starting high school and was supposed to get one of these. Oh well.

Warning for anyone purchasing: The new "base model" iPad comes out next month and based on rumors will be styled like the newer generation (air, mini, pro) with flat sides, usb-c port, and pencil 2 support.

So if you do get the Gen1 pencil here, don't expect it to work on your "next" iPad. Just the one you currently have.

New iPhone didn't get usb-c port. I doubt they add it to the base iPad.

I can't find the order in my history but I believe I got two of these from Best Buy in 2018 via Deal of the Day: $59.

College student used with taking notes and I used mine for work notes and drawing (look up Procreate or Autodesk Sketchbook). Great great inexpensive drawing apps.

Also took notes on noteability and mindmap apps. I also have the crayola pencil too which was handy. However appreciated the 1st gen pencil for our older iPads. Does great with pressure sensitivity drawing and painting. Very responsive. I would pay $70 now based on my experience.

I had one of those and it worked great at first, but died within a few months.
Apple offers a year warranty on it and there great at replacing things.
