Check with your car insurance before you pay out of pocket.
Lots of time you can get cracks repaired for free (usually through Safelite).
If you need a replacement, then you would have to cover your deductible, not sure if you could apply this to an insurance claim.
Yikes. So many horror stories from them. They messed up my 2021 xc40 sensors. If you have an old car may be worth it. You're better off going to someone local. Almost every industry guy knows they are the worsr quality.
Worked for me, thanks. My windshield isn't cracked but it's got a hundred tiny chips from gravel impacts that are really distracting when the sun hits them.

I think (?) that windshield glass is not all the same quality. Some are less effective against engine noise and road noise? How to know which are best value?
Safelite is the worse! Replaced a windshield on my car 3x before they got it right. Because of their faulty installation, my interior got flooded when it rained and so they caused 2-3k in damages. That $100 is not worth it. They can't pay me to go to them.
As someone who does auto glass for a living this is untrue. If you want dealer or OEM glass my company will happily make it happen for you through your insurance. Safelite won't do it due to the markup they add.
That may be the case, but it was true when I was calling around ( tried various shops, not just Safelite ) Also, various members on clublexus, bmw, and corvette forums etc have similar experiences as mine.
If I found one who'd do it within the DFW area, I would've jumped on it right away!
Normally the way that works is , you have to have some form of "Comprehensive" coverage on the Auto (Fire, Theft, Vandalism etc) aka the 'Comp' part of 'Comp and Collision coverage'. If you have lien the bank usually requires this coverage. The key is that, you do not have to pay your deductible. For example here in FL ..you could have Comp with a $1000 Ded, and IF your Windshield is damaged, insurance is required to cover without charging you the deductible first. Driving around with a cracked windshield is considered a 'safety' issue not only to you; but others on the road (think large pieces of flying glass flying around the highway). The trick here is that in most states, it is only the FRONT Windshield that is covered with no deductible and if you paid off your car and took comp coverage off...then you are paying in full.
State Farm ( in Texas ) requires no out of pocket expense if the damage is repairable. However, comprehensive deductible applies if a replacement is needed.
Comp coverage has no negative affect on premiums, thankfully!
I've reduced my comp coverage deductible from $250 to $0 with only a slight increase ( $60 yearly ) in my premium! Totally worth it, imo!
My SUV back glass got broken and needed a replacement. I am very disappointed with Safelite.
1. Very much glass distortion
2. Ordered glass with antenna but got non-antenna glass
3. Technician:
a. Made a dent on back door (liftgate)
b. Left a lot of glass pieces in my car
c. Screwed up the liftgate latch so it can not be completely closed. I got that liftgate latch replaced by the dearlership because I did not trust Safelite competence to fix it.
Interesting that you say this, considering our recent experience. We have a 2018 Honda Odyssey that needed a replacement. We have comprehensive with State Farm, so the deductible is $0. Set up the appointment with Safelite, but, the day my wife drove it to their shop, they said they needed to reschedule because the insurance company had specified aftermarket glass, but they didn't feel comfortable using that because the sensor calibration usually won't work, so they told the insurance company they needed to use an OEM windshield, which State Farm agreed to, but this delayed things a week, while the windshield came in. Had it installed a week later with no problems.
I know someone with an Audi who went with aftermarket glass from a local place, and it didn't go well. Not sure what all on his car stopped working, but he was extremely unhappy.
I am unhappy that State Farm didn't agree to replace with OEM ..Now, I have 'Fuyao' branded windshield on my rather expensive and new ( 2022 ) vehicle!
Heck, I had to fight'em to approve replacing the trims and clips!! Lexus clearly states those are not re-usable! ugh!
The installer did confirm that the sensors were properly calibrated, and I'm not seeing any issues just yet! However, keeping my eyes out!
I've never had a claim in all the years I've been driving and always been with State Farm ( 15 years for me, 25+ years for my mom/dad ) and this experience pisses me off every time I think of this whole ordeal.

That blows man! One of the reasons I didn't go with Safelite is because the reviews for them are atrocious ( Dallas, Texas )
There was no freaking way I would let them touch my $100K plus car!
Are all Safelite locations corporate owned, or are they franchised out?
Also, there may have been one calibration issue my wife noticed. She said the lane keeping system seems to kick in just a bit sooner if she goes to the right edge of the lane now. However, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, since she's had a tendency to drift off in that direction a bit, even clipping the curb on some right turns from time to time. It's a minor enough difference that she isn't sure if it's just her imagination.
had them replace my wife's 2021 cx-30's windshield and they did a great job. I am ending up going back, my 2007 taco needs a windshield and for 205 plus tax no issues with that price. I don't drive it much but I suppose it's time to replace since it's all cracked up.
If you want a wavy, blurry, shitty windshield, definitely call safelite for a replacement.
It took them 3 tries to put an acceptable piece of glass in my wife's car.

Seems to be a mix of both. The safelite location where I'm located looks to be out of a local glass shop.

That's crazy!! Do you not have comprehensive coverage on your auto insurance ? Also, are you certain it needs to be replaced and can't be repaired ?

Arizona does. I found that out the hard way after moving here and having multiple windshield repairs and replacements.
