Good strategy that unfortunately is going to go over most people's heads as "36 month contract" is a dog whistle for some around here. People lose their ability to think critically and just start shouting it's a bad deal anytime the read 36 months.

What they forget is exactly as you expressed. Even if you didn't sell the other phone or do trade ins or any of that, you've still gotten $333 in credits after 1 year, $666 in credits after two years and can cancel well before the 36 months are up and still get an awesome deal. Who is giving you $666 discount on an new iphone just for holding it for 2 years? Apple? lol no. Nevermind the profit from selling the old one on ebay.
That is so true! Thank you for the support!

Again you're not understanding the concept of having the phone paid off by next year based on the numbers I provided you. I'm not worried about fulfilling the entire 36 months. I'm looking at $266 for one year. By next year the phone will be paid off. I'm not locked into 36 months. Once the phone is paid off it's unlocked and the installment agreement is fulfilled.

Once the phone is paid off I will sell on eBay again. If they still offer this promo next year I will have even more I can make off the 14 Pro Max next year to obtain the 15 Pro Max.

Just because you finance for 36 months doesn't mean I keep my credits through 2025.

What I just illustrated that this phone will cost me $0 out of pocket throughout the 12 months as opposed to trading in my 12 Pro Max while getting only $266 for the first year. If you take a broken phone and sell your good phone you are winning the entire time.
Sorry, I don't understand. How your phone will be paid off by next year? If I go buy now from Verizon, I am only allowed to pay upgrade fee and tax. Remaining amount is offset considering the trade in value over 36 months so if I am getting $800 (paid over 36 months) then remaining amount $200 is paid over 36 months. If at any point of time, I try to pay it off I will lose the credit.

1. Bought a cracked, but functional Galaxy A42 on eBay for $50. Verizon is providing $800 over 36 months or $266/year.
2. I have a paid in full unlocked iPhone 12 Pro Max that I had for two years.
3. Sold my 12 Pro Max on eBay for $710.
4. I will use the trade-in of the Galaxy A42 along with the money I made on my two year old 12 Pro Max as a down payment.
5. My iPhone 14 Pro Max will be paid in full by 2023 or when the 15 Pro Max will launch next along with the credits and down payment applied.

That's how you win and work the system…

Why isn't this considered a great deal?
If you have to ask... you are the perfect customer for Verizon...lol
