Seems like a good price for this tool to me. If you already carry this Ridgid line, your all set.

That may be true for some. That's what my dad did, and going w/ cheaper tools didn't always work out. I go the route of buying the best that I can afford, and hopefully that's the last time that I need to buy that tool.
I have a Ryobi circular saw and I have no gripes about it. Now I'm invested in the Ridgid line and it's not very expensive with the hacks and DTO and you get a better tool and better warranty than Ryobi. That's how I justified the extra cost over Ryobi. My next circular saw will be Ridgid.
If I was a contractor, I'd go Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, etc.
Ridgid is definitely prosumer level, below Milwaukee. Ridgid is not the best nor should you pay like it.
I have the new 6 1/2" circ saw and it works great. It is also on sale with 4ah Max bat and charger for $139. The 4ah Max bat alone costs more than $100.

Possibly because you have a military or some other discount?

I have this saw. I got it as a free tool with a battery pack purchase. I am not a pro but I have run a lot of skilsaws and I don't have anything bad to say about it.

It's 89 at my local store. Still waiting for a further price drop. Those boxes pretty banged up at store. This tool was 85 at the height of the octane line with the tool hack.

Looks like Direct Tools Outlet [directtoolsoutlet.com] has it for $58 but Factory Reconditioned and in-store pickup only. Seems like a good price for those who have an outlet store nearby.

If you are a homeowner no need for high quality circular saw for a couple of times a year use. I bought harbor freight circular saw for $30 cuts nicely. when I bought a new house got excited and wanted the Best equipment so bought into the ridgid 18 volt system. extremely pricey would have been better off at Ryobi or harbor freight tools. but if you are a contractor I would go for rigid tools

If you do woodworking as a hobby go for it. Otherwise I would go with what your dad did

It totally depends on what you are cutting. If you just need to cut some 2x4's I'm totally with you, and I love Harbor Freight for many things.

If you are doing jobs that demand precise cuts then the tables on cheaper saws just aren't reliable. They are too flimsy to be trusted on a simple job like cutting a laminated countertop.

I bought this saw from DTO for $60. It's my beater saw. When I cut into my roof through decking with nails, I'm happy to use the Ridgid battery powered. For more precise work, I use my old Makita.
